Was brought up as a kid in burnsde absolutely loved the staff I had to guide me as a young lad, I feel very fortunate to have had such amazing roll models to look up to at the time still miss the staff dearly to this day
I was in this house for a few years and my experience was very mixed.. some staff was horrible and didn’t give a care in the world a lot seemed to be there for the money. I was treat horribly at times and then sometimes amazing a lot off staff would try to help and support you when having a hard time and have a laugh with you however other staff just left and judged you. I think a lot of staff are not educated on mental illnesses like they should be so then they just say ‘it’s your age’ or ‘you’re pathetic’ instead off thinking it’s not their fault they’re going through something, this is to do with their disorder.. i do understand some things are not right what you do but I think they need to have more empathy. I saw many staff members giving kids dirty looks and hearing them mutter under their breath something mean about a kid... I was called many names during hard times, and also handled aggressively. When bringing up stuff staff had said and done it was just ignored and put a side however when something is brought up about a kid it’s a serious matter and dealt with straight away. I really disliked my stay at Burnside I definitely wouldn’t recommend, however their is such lovely staff in there and you meet some great people.
