Gym is constantly busy kids from the school or little boys who swing from the machines and don’t even workout, staff sit on their phones while the kids run riot just a waste of money tbh
Staff is friendly and helpfull. The swimming pool use to be a bit cold but is a lot better now. Spa's good, but in my opinion the steam bath is too big and it's very unlikely to get what you are expected from it.
I recently visited Newbattle Leisure Centre and was extremely disappointed with the poor customer service from a staff member named Lynn Fleming. From the moment I interacted with her, she was rude, dismissive, and completely unhelpful. Rather than assisting with my inquiry, she seemed impatient and uninterested, making me feel like I was an inconvenience by laughing to a high pitch tone and made me feel small. Her attitude was unprofessional and not what I would expect from a customer-facing role at a leisure centre. A welcoming and friendly atmosphere is essential in such a place, but unfortunately, that was not my experience. her attitude is absolutely appalling. I hope the council will take this feedback seriously and ensures better customer service training for staff. A leisure centre should be a place where visitors feel comfortable and respected, not treated with rudeness and indifference especially to young adult and kids.
This is Actually my school but I'll just focus on the community side (I would like to note that this may mean my experience will be different from yours as most of mine has been for educational purposes). Unfortunately I cannot comment on the Cafe as pupils are not allowed to buy from it during the school day, however based from my classmates the coffee is good (I wouldn't know though since I dont like coffee), I haven't spent a lot time in the library, but from what lttle time I have spent there it has been a pleasant and peaceful experience, if you plan on visiting the library I would like to mention that it is a popular hangout spot during breaks and lunches (so expect a lot of pupils between 11:08am - 11:23am and 1pm - 1:49pm). As my PE class has had me in both the gym (known as the towzone) and the swimming pool I will review them in a more educational manner. The Gym has a lot of machines for both cardio and weight lifting, I can't say too much about the different types of weights and body building stuff as I focused on cardio but I can say I had little to no issues, however it is common for the treadmills to randomly stop because of an "elevation issue", if this happens to you unplug and replug the treadmill or find another one, aside from that everything else is fine. Lastly I will talk about the swimming pool. It's a great place (mabey a bias because the teachers at newbattle actually tought me how to swim lol), the swimming pool is cut into two halfs so their is usually little width to swim, I think this was done so the public and the school wouldn't collide, the pool cuts into the deep and halfway down as most pools do. I cannot comment on the diving boards as I haven't used them but other classmates say their fun. The changing rooms have lockers (lockers cost £1) and has lots of privacy, though it's not uncommon to hear studants yelling (sorry about that). Have to bump down my rating because I'm a student here and school is boring. But in all seriousness it's a decent place.
Had a lovely swim in the pool and used the steamroom and sauna. The whirlpool was not working.
Gym and staff are great, the only thing that's very frustrating is the amount of users constantly looking at their phones instead of using the weights, don't understand why phones are not left in lockers. Impossible to access the benches while their thumbs are being exercised.
Friendly staff, good facilities. I used the swimming pool which is a good size. There is 2 diving boards. I also used the jacuzzi, the sauna room and the steam room. It's so good to have facilities open again. A very enjoyable 2 hours spent. Highly recommended
Staff are great here, covid procedures and booking system is fantastic and easy to use. Hard to get booked into pool but to be expected due to covid. Its great to see so many booking in to use such good facilities!
