Hours were wrong. Me and many people tried to go there, but it was closed. And it is hard to get in this shopping area by foot. Had to walk all the way around the street which curved upwards in the opposite direction, no way to walk through, and then the shopping area was surrounded by giant stone walls and no pedestrian entrances on any side but a long corridor across the entire parking lot.

It's pretty much the same as Poundworld, which used to be situated in exactly the same building, with almost exactly the same layout, shelving, prices, stock and staff. (See my review of Poundworld for more details) So you'd think it would be almost exactly the same shop. You'd think. But it's not. It just isn't. It's got a weird, end of the world atmosphere. Like the apocalypse happened and this is the last remaining shop open. It's creepy faux-pop covers blast out of its Poundland "Radio Station", reminding you of songs you know, but processed through a committee of music haters. It's insidious, sweet and annoying. But, you sing along as you try and get out of the way of angry mothers with more kids than teeth, while avoiding eye contact with everyone else , just in case. The layout is now a bit weird. Random product groupings of mixed "bargains" slowly give way to a more sensible departments as you get deeper into its starkly lit interior cave. Until you hit the back of the shop, where the horrors of the clothing department smack you round the face, with garish signage and the cheapest of cheap promotions attempting to entice you into the jungle of horrors. Once out of this section, it actually turns into what was good about Poundworld. Clearly defined sections, cheap as chips products and the occasional actual bargain. It's everything the first half of the shop isn't. It's sensible, easy to shop, clean defined, well stocked, merchandised and almost makes you forget the audio pummeling your ears have taken so far. Until you wind through the Alladins cave of an amazing range of pound priced products and hit the horror of the checkouts. It's like the entrance. Cramped, stuffed full of the same lazy "promotions" (note to managers - just because it's a pound, doesn't mean it's a bargain or needs promoting!) and claustrophobic, herding and unnecessary. It's a terrible experience akin to airport security in Greece. With about the same level of customer service. They don't give a stuffed vine leaf about you. No smile, hello, goodbye or anything inbetween. It's like they have accepted that it just doesn't matter. If you've come this far, you've made it through, then you'll just be happy to pay to get out. With a grunt while they slap the change into your hand. I genuinely liked Poundworld. It wasn't classy, but it wasn't a mess, confusing, noisy and a trauma to shop in. It had the odd bargain or product that just couldn't be found elsewhere. Poundland could have too. If they hadn't given half the store over to awful clothes and dubious promotions. And that music...
