No ability to pay down, no incentive to save I took a budget booster loan out, thinking this would help some short term expenses, but not realising it’s added to your credit profile as a credit card, not a loan. As I was utilising more than 50% of it, it negatively impacted my credit score. After realising this, I asked to apply my savings within the credit union to lower the balance, lower the interest (and heal my score a bit) but was refused as they’ll only let you pay the balance in full, not in part. Then, I get emails offering loans etc from them. I’m honestly starting to wonder about their practices. They also hold your savings, you can’t touch them whilst you have a credit product running, this includes additional savings you choose to put in during that time, so there’s no incentive to continue to save, because you can’t get at your savings! The interest rates aren’t super competitive anymore either, so I don’t think I’ll be using them again. Once my budget booster is complete, I reckon I’ll go to my town’s CU instead.

I’ve been a member of credit unions for nearly 15 and never had nothing but positive experiences since joining nhs I decided join this one . I applied for debt consolidation loan to help myself avoid the high interest rates I was experiencing- information they wanted in limited time was very stressful as had contact all debt companies took a week and lots work and stress however I did this as understand it needs be through , Only for one cold woman to close my loan application apparently my bank statement didn’t show council tax coming out it would of that month as march and April I don’t pay as I pay it over 9 months , after a day I phoned and spoke to a lovely employee Richard whom encouraged me to re apply and was apologetic. I replied feeling confident I would get the debt consolidation loan as my incoming and outgoings were all good I wasn’t behind in essential bills . Only for this same woman to asses my loan application and not accept it I believe her name is Vicky . I asked for breakdown of why I didn’t get accepted only to be told was based on their particular lending criteria. I believe this particular employee has taken instant dislike to me , it’s bizarre how everyone else is welcoming and supportive as a credit union should but this particular employee is everything but ! I will cancel my membership and from other reviews I see I’m not first person she has done this too think needs be addressed before you loose more members .

I have been a member of NHS credit union for well over 10 years and they have helped me so much with a helpful, understanding respectful manner up until now. I found my recent experience with the advisor of applying for personal loan very disappointing. She was very blunt, unfriendly and seemed unconcerned and did not seem to be empathetic regarding my reasons about my current financial circumstances during our chats. Albeit the chats were through NIVO chat so acknowledge may be misinterpreted. I won’t be applying or using them again. Now just keen to pay off existing loan then close account.

Could probably get a mortgage easier. Sooooooo much info and "evidence" required for a small loan when I tried a while ago. Gave up as too busy to deal with it all. Much easier going elsewhere

OK taking your money but make you jump through hoops when you want to lend it. Closed my account and took a loan out with South Yorkshire credit union which was quick and easy.

Generally good but not when the automated service is down and you do not have any details nearby.
