   My daughter was hospitalised in March, in Thailand, with E.coli. She immediately provided Outbacker with every proof and invoice they required. The email was acknowledged. It was a straightforward claim to be reimbursed for the stay. Here we are at the beginning of June with no other response from them. I paid with my credit card for the hospital fees and I’m incurring interest by the day, but I doubt they give a monkey’s.

   Do not use ! My 20 year old son had an accident at the Koh Samui in April 2023 . Taking a photo , the raised decking are collapsed. Resulting in a 14 foot fall and narrowly missing a cliff drop! We are so grateful he survived but sustained lacerations to his arms and leg. 13 hospital visits , confined to his room for two weeks unable to enjoy the time with his friends or go in the water due to 40 plus stitches. Had ri flow home early, has phone stolen . We could not get Outbacker on the phone so decided to fly our son home early. Communication with this insurance company toon ages not replying to emails for more than two weeks. Result of our claim absolutely nothing. They said did not ask them if he could come home early so we could not claim for that. That he did not get a police report for phone - well he was in hospital . Curtailment of holiday nothing. Hospital bills nothing - due to it be so cheap in Thailand they were not above the excess. Never use this company if you want peace of mind. Which is why we took the policy out. .

   It saddens me to see so many negative reviews of this insurance company as I have only had positive experiences with them. I used Outbacker for my trip in Latin America last year and was very satisfied. They are extremely quick to help you in an emergency and make sure you are taken care of abroad. It gives you a huge peace of mind when you're travelling! I decided to use Outbacker again for my Asia trip this year and again, I have had no problems with them. I have always been reimbursed for my expenses. However, it does take time to to be reimbursed sometimes but the most important thing is that they do follow through. Outbacker is an extremely affordable insurance company compared to others and I wouldn't be thrown off by the negative google reviews! They also are more than happy to liaise with family members back home on your behalf (this is very important if your sim doesn't allow international calls and you need to speak to a member of staff immediately).

   DO NOT PURCHASE INSURANCE FROM THESE! Absolutely scandalous company that will miss-sell you insurance and not pay out when faced with life threatening travel situations! Paid out on my partners claim on the same insurance then refused to pay out for myself after being faced with potential death facing consequences and left to worry with the risks situated with it. You have been warned avoid these scandals!

   My experience with outbacker was amazing. I got into a motorcycle accident in Thailand needing surgery surgery on my foot, within 24 hours the claim was approved and I was in surgery all expenses paid with no hassle at all. The insurance dealt directly with hospital so I had nothing to worry about and no upfront/hidden costs. Outbacker has varied reviews online which is why I wanted to share my experience as they were amazing for me, will definitely insure myself with them again. 10/10 customer service, one very satisfied (although injured lol) customer! Thank you!

   Please avoid this insurance company at all costs! If I could give them 0 stars I would. I have been trying to get money back for a lost device for the best part of 3 months. Customer service is appalling and not designed for long trips abroad, which is ridiculous considering the insurance I bought covers a year long trip. Calling from abroad costs a huge amount of money, most of which I will not get back, and the customer service via email takes best part of 2 weeks to reply and completely ignores anything you've told them in previous correspondence. It's like talking to a brick wall. Please, for your own sanity, never use this company.

   Delayed review but my memory was reminded as I'm going travelling again and DEFINITELY LOOKING FOR ANOTHER BACKPACKING INSURANCE. Had to come home in 2020 from Chile to Scotland due to coronavirus pandemic. Flight companies were charging ridiculous prices to get home so we had little choice but to pay for them. When we got home tried to get money back for flights but they were saying we weren't covered for that. I argued that we were cutting our trip short as we'd planned to be away for 1 year and had also payed for 1 years cover. All we ended up getting in the end was the money back that we paid for the insurance, which I had to fight for for ages. Stay away from Outbacker backpacking insurance...

   I would advise you all to use a different company for your insurance needs. I will never use Outbacker insurance company again. I originally used them as they were a cheap option with a good star rating on compare the market. I have rated them 2 stars because I eventually got my payout, however, this took 4 months after constantly having to email them to check what was going on with my claim. The service was not good enough, considering the original reply to my claim was that it could take up to 15 working days; so chasing them up after 85 working days to get money back was not acceptable. As an insurance company that supports backpackers, they need to be able to provide quicker services, as backpackers usually don’t have lots of money to fall back on. Other reviews on Google seem to correspond with this, however it seems I am one of the lucky ones to actually get a pay out!
