We booked The Old White Bear for my 50th meal as they offered a secluded corner for my party of 11. A very pretty area with twinkly lights, which was perfect to celebrate together. Unfortunately the food and service was not so pleasant. The chef dropped one of the pies so that person did not get her main meal as was told they were replacing it and after a further 20 minutes wait, she was informed again they were no more pies available and ended up with a starter just so she could eat. Another member also waited a further 20 minutes to get her pie ( not sure why she had to wait as they only dropped 1 pie) so she ate on her own as we all had finished by the time her meal came out. The halumi burger tasted of fat/grease, so that friend didnt eat either. Also another member of the party didnt get their dessert as they forgot to bring it out, so did without that. I feel very disappointed that this has tarnished what should of been a happy, memorable occasion. It will be remembered for all the wrong reasons sadly.

We had a fantastic time at The Old White Beare in Norwood Green. It’s a beautiful, characterful pub with a really cosy atmosphere and a proper village feel. The staff were friendly, attentive and nothing was too much trouble. The food was excellent – generous portions, well cooked and nicely presented. Our mains were full of flavour and the desserts were the perfect finish. Great choice of drinks too, with plenty of beers, wines and spirits to pick from. Loved the relaxed vibe and the comfortable seating areas, both inside and out. It’s the kind of place you can happily spend an afternoon in. We’ll definitely be back and would highly recommend The Old White Beare to anyone looking for a quality pub meal in a lovely setting.

A few days ago I went to The Old White Bear in Norwood Green with my hubby and friends. We had a lovely time and the staff was super nice. The food was very tasty and I will definitely go back again soon! I paint places that are memorable and this place made my list!

First time visit, the lunch pie special £25 for two. We ordered fish pies, steak pies, it was value for money. Desserts we had crumbles, sticky toffee pudding. They were tasty.

Great location, however 2 smashed burgers in a brioche bun. The bun dwarfed the burgers, not sure of the size but not large enough for an adult, we recieved 2 meals after around 30 mins, by second 2 meals came around 15 mins later. Would go again for the location but would not recommend the food, came away hungry.

Rang up 3 hours before to reserve the lamb which was served with savoy cabbage when I arrived they said there was no lamb left and it seems mine hadn't been reserved either which totally ruined it. So I went for the beef pie and asked if I could have some savoy cabbage on it to be told I wasn't allowed cabbage unless I bought an extra side of seasonal vegetables of 3.00. Really what's a bit of cabbage when they'd spoilt my meal in the first place. Coke was tastless and full of ice and the high chair didn't keep my baby sat down it was useless so won't be going again if they couldn't just give me a bit of cabbage for free after ruining my original meal. When my meal arrived the pastry lid crumbled to nothing the veg was flat cold n rock hard, i had litwrally a spoonful of mash and my partners gammon was all fatty. Over priced and clicky. Will never ever go again

I'm sure the owners are doing their best but unfortunately it's not good enough. The service is lacking in all areas. Better training is required to get the staff up to speed. Food isn't bad but not a patch in just a few years ago. Pints aren't a full pint, not sure if that's cost saving or simply poor pouring.

We decided to visit the Old White Beare for just a quick drink, but after seeing the food coming out we couldn’t help ourselves! Food was piping hot, good portion size and delicious! The team couldn’t do enough for you, they even recommended the wine that would go perfectly with my meal! It’s a stunning pub with a fantastic atmosphere we will be back before you know it!! Thank you for a lovely day out!

Have visited here before a while ago and service has gone seriously backwards!! We waited nearly an hour for our first course with no apologies for the delay. Waiter came over with desserts for the children before any of our main courses? (Including the children’s!) When the mains did finally arrive, the lamb rump dinner came and was inedible! The lamb couldn’t be cut into and the quality of meat was dreadful. We complained to the waiter who fed it back to the chef and we were told that if we ordered another lamb rump it would be exactly the same?! We complained again to the waiter and mentioned to them that we have really enjoyed eating here in the past and the waiter acknowledged that there has been a change in the chef and that this restaurant is now part of a chain. Have all the suppliers now changed also?! Regardless, we are incredibly disappointed with the service and the quality of the food. We do however appreciate the manager acknowledging our complaint and handling it in the manner he did. We won’t be back I’m afraid.

There was a time where the Old White Beare excelled in quality. When I ate there last week, I was very disappointed and made it quite clear to the staff. Firstly, when we were seated we were informed that practically half of the menu, and some drinks, were not available. We ordered fish and chips and steak. When the food arrived we were asked if we would like anything else to go with our food, and I asked for cutlery. There was no cutlery on the table. Then I had to go around and search for someone to give me a steak knife as I was not provided with one. As for the food itself, as you can see from the images, the fish was tiny. A tiny thin sliver of fish. Possibly the smallest I've ever seen. My steak was alright, however I'd ordered a chilli butter for it which never arrived, when enquiring about it it turns out there wasn't any...so they gave me a cold garlic butter instead - but by the time it had arrived, and I'd got a knife to cut it, my steak was cold so it didn't melt. Very disappointed by my experience there. I paid full price and didn't complain after as I didn't have energy to do so. I felt very let down by a usual fabulous place, which is why it has three stars. If I hadn't any prior knowledge it would have been a 2 star rating.
