   The food is great but the service isn’t. We booked a table online for a Sunday roast as we often do, and were fairly regular customers. We arrived on time and were stood at the bar for over 15 minutes waiting to be seated. The staff stood around chatting and blatantly ignored us. Not even so much as an ‘Hello’. Eventually, we decided to leave and go somewhere else. The lady in charge walked past at least 4-5 times without acknowledging us, and a lot of the young waitresses were too busy talking to each other. It’s disappointing given I’ve been coming for years and always recommended the roasts to people. I wouldn’t rush to come back again.

   The dining areas are separated, which makes this place suitable for family gatherings. It is exceptionally clean, and the staff members are courteous. The food is generally of a high standard. There is a fixed menu as well as a special menu, which makes occasional experimentation possible. The chef’s dedication and consideration are evident. I visit frequently because of the quality of the food, and I hope it will never change.

   Birthday Lunch at the private dining room. The service was very good. They made sure we always have drinks and that we are happy with our dishes. The food was delicious we all had Sunday roasts. The planning was also very smooth , they were responsive and communicated well.

   Very rare to find such quality food! Amazing chef! Pheasant pie, absolutely delicious! Very good fish and chips, beef pie also nice, deserts home made, great! So fine simple cuisine! One of the best British restaurants I've been! Staff really kind and polite! Great afternoon, thanks!

   Lovely and welcoming staff. Good choice of foods including vegetarian. Food wasn’t so great but customer service was excellent. Atmosphere was good but bit crowded. Family enjoyed the Sunday dinner but not so great. Lovely interior and there was some discounts for some.

   We celebrated my husband's 50th birthday party at the Star and Garter and couldn't have been happier. They set up a long table for us in the back of the restaurant to fit our group of 20. There was plenty of space, the food was great and everyone had a fabulous time. Special shout out to the fantastic team who looked after us so well. They were professional, courteous and attentive throughout the whole evening. I'd definitely recommend this place for special occasions.

   We went here for our works Christmas party, and although the food I had was very tasty - camembert to start, rib of beef for main. When we went upstairs to the function room, the stairs had clearly not been hoovered for a very long time! There was a Christmas tree in the room which was lovely, but no christmas table decorations , and most disappointingly there were no Christmas Crackers. Its not really a Christmas party without a little paper hat on. We would have been better off having a couple of tables in the restaurant and eating off the main menu for better value and better atmosphere.
