My three years here were excellent. Mind you that was over 40 yrs ago. But the place still has all its natural beauty with way more facilities.
Don’t fear university halls! I’ve had the best year here. Although it is about a 30/40 minute walk away from the university campus and city itself, I found this bonded people who lived in the halls together, particularly people in my flat. I lived in Birchwood flat 1 which had 11 other people. The bedroom is much more spacious than all other university accommodation I visited throughout the year (because there was no en-suite or double bed). The shared bathrooms were alright, we had 4 toilet cubicles and 4 shower cubicles per flat. We had 2 kitchens which were quite spacious. The flat got cleaned on a weekly basis. Throughout the year I had a few maintenance issues in my bedroom but these were all resolved within the next 1 or 2 days of reporting the issue. There was an hourly bus on weekdays which did a loop of 4 main university buildings (medical school, business school, student union, engineering school) and started at 8:10am and finished at 5:40pm. In the evenings we ordered ubers to go into the city or student union, when spilt these were around £2. The halls are about a 10 minute walk to Roath park where we went on walks, played games, and had a barbecue in the summertime. There is also some green space in university halls and a MUGA. Overall, university hall is one of the biggest university accommodations so although it is far, you are not alone! Your experience will be more dependent on who you are around rather than where you are, and I found amazing friends in Birchwood and wouldn’t have wanted to live in any other accommodation.
Liveable. but that's about it. Every single thing is worse than any other hall I've lived in. Far from any shops, far from campus, minimal facilities only, laundry is a significant walk away, I'd say look elsewhere if possible.
Oh my God. Where to begin? This campus is weirdly located like a mile away from any civilization. There is absolutely nothing to do that isn't twenty minutes away. The bathrooms are filthy! Very inconvenient and horribly boring. The old Edwardian mansion is charming to study in, but it is cramped. I'm guessing it's because Birchwood House was built for a genteel family, not a bunch of overgrown children.

Only minus is shared bathrooms and toilets, otherwise good halls. Wonderful people, honestly feels like family. Far away from Cardiff Uni but there is a bus. Good memories had here.
Okay. Rooms are definitely clean and ready for people but are really so small! Has toilets and showers, hall, gardens, kitchens, etc.
Rooms are clean and ok size to expect in an older hall. The good aspect, there are public services right outside the halls.
