Rooms can be quite noisy especially around about closing time. The building is old and quirky which has character. The rooms are clean and have everything you need. We didn’t eat here so I’m not sure about the food but the bar was very popular. I think the place has recently changed hands my advice to the new owners is try and stop the main doors constantly banging closed you can’t do much about noisy customers but banging doors is an easy fix.

If I could offer less than 1 star I really would. We were in here for 2 hours. Starter came out swamped in oil with no flavour, we then waited an hour for 4 steaks on the skillet, never asked once how the meal was or if we wanted any drinks. My husband had to go up to the bar 4 times as we had no garlic butter for the steaks, and his skillet wasn’t hot, my husband wasn’t able to eat his meal. Overheard a member of staff stating they finished at 6 however stayed over to help as the manager was cooking the food there was no chef! A table of 6 walked out and a table of 3 had no food! Absolutely disgusting, offered half price on the meal, the manager was on her phone for an hour. Absolutely appalling service will never return here again!

Stunning location—but a truly disappointing dinner. We were drawn in by a friend’s recommendation to try their signature “steak on stone,” the only steak option on their menu. So we ordered four of them, expecting that sizzling presentation—only to receive our steaks on plain plates. When we questioned it, staff offered to move the meat onto hot stones... but it was already cooked perfectly. This transfer would have compromised the texture, which thankfully never happened—but the steaks turned out over-seasoned and far too salty. What really stung: there was no true acknowledgement of this culinary misstep. Instead of offering a meaningful discount, we were offered a single free drink at the end of the meal— as we were leaving shortly- we refused. When we asked for a price reduction to reflect the experience, the manager refused—and even added that she’d rather not have us as customers again. This was truly our worst dining experience, and we’ll never return. AVOID this place

Great location! However... The policy of the hotel group is to not provide soap in the room's en suite bathroom. Neither was there any warning of this before we arrived (at least, none that we spotted). Shower gel is provided in the shower -- unfortunately it is difficult to reach from outside the shower. Especially as the floor of the shower is permanently wet from a bad leak in the shower plumbing, even when it is switched off. The en suite floor is large tiles. Unfortunately, the central tile, which is the one that you mostly stand on, rocks up and down as you move.

We stayed here for a wedding and had a whale of a time. We were looked after by Adam and team from start to finish and they couldn't do enough for us. Our room was spacious, clean and well appointed. The atmosphere in the pub was brilliant. Friendly people working and drinking. Thank you for looking after us so well.

We had a very disappointing meal in the STONEAGED restaurant on Saturday. Service slow, restaurant cold, food okay. We arrived and was seated by 13:15 (table booked for 13:30). Starter arrived at 14:00, we had to ask for the main after waiting over half hour with empty starter plates. At 16:00 we got so fed up waiting after finishing the main, we paid the bill and left without desert or coffee. The room was so cold, most of us had to put our overcoats back on to keep warm. The food was ok, when it eventually came, but it was a great shame the whole experience was spoilt by the service, plus, there was no Christmas options on the menu as we were told when booking. The slow service was also a little surprising as there was only one other table of 4 in the restaurant, although the bar looked a bit busier. Overall, a disappointing experience just before Christmas.

Can’t give a higher score as I was incredibly disappointed to be told that at 7.45pm I couldn’t order any food at the bar as they were too busy. We arrived to celebrate a birthday and was looking forward to having a meal and a few drinks. Approximately 35-40 minutes later I see a table of four happily tucking into a meal? Came home early as we were absolutely starving. Why advertise food being served until 9pm on a Saturday when you obviously don’t do this?

We booked a table in the restaurant in advance for 7 adults and 3 children. We asked if we can bring a small dog with us, and whoever answered the phone said yes, and even asked if the dog can sit still. When we arrived after driving for 40 minutes from Birmingham to meet up friends coming from Scotland, we were told that we cannot come in with the dog. The waitress that we talked to also went to double check it with ‘the manager’, who we never saw anyway. She blamed it on possible miscommunication and said that maybe we booked a table in the bar. However, there was no table of 10 ready in the bar and we would have to sit on different tables anyway. Some of us went there to try the steak, but we were not allowed to order from the restaurant menu in the bar. We decided to let our friends eat in the restaurant, while we quickly grabbed a bite in the bar, but sadly the only reasonable menu choices were just some sandwiches or fish and chips, which came quite cold with really cold fries after 40 minutes. To be perfectly honest, we didn’t really mind to leave the dog at home for a couple of hours. We understand that most restaurants do not allow dogs inside, but we’ve recently been to a few restaurants that do, so we always ask in advance. If our friends wouldn’t live far away, we would have left immediately, but we didn’t want to ruin their day as much as it was already ruined for us.

We hired the Cygnets Bar for my son's christening reception. Nigel (the owner) couldn't do enough for us, he was so helpful and kind. Nothing was too much to ask for and everything ran so smoothly on the day. The staff were amazing and so polite to all of the guests. The buffet was yummy and there was plenty of food to go around, we were really impressed! We will be definitely using the bar again and recommending the place. Thanks to everyone at The White Swan.
