   My son attended Aqua Academy in Cross Hills for nearly two years and was an exemplary student — polite, engaged, enthusiastic, and progressing well. He never caused any behavioural issues and looked forward to every lesson. Shockingly, he was abruptly excluded from the swim school without warning, simply because we had arranged a trial session at another club to support his ongoing development. The owner, Corrinne (“Coz”) Tantrum, messaged to say she was “disappointed” and would be cancelling all future lessons, without speaking to me or my son. There was no conversation, no opportunity to resolve anything, and no regard for the emotional impact on a 9-year-old who trusted her. This was not a decision made in my son’s best interests. It was personal, punitive, and unprofessional. Worse still, after reviewing online feedback, I discovered multiple families have experienced similar treatment — sudden exclusions, poor communication, and a lack of respect when asking questions or seeking to support their child’s growth. Parents deserve to know how this business treats children and families. There is no complaints process, no transparency, and no safeguarding oversight. If you’re considering lessons here, please think twice. There are many other clubs and coaches who genuinely put the wellbeing and development of the child first — this was not our experience here. I have since started taking my son to Nuffield in Shipley who have a much better pool and they appear to have my son’s interests ahead of any egos.

   Absolutely shocking. Avoid avoid avoid. Least helpful owner, doesn't abide by her own T's&C's, legal case waiting to happen. Kids haven't got enough room to swim, teacher calls your kid the wrong name even after been corrected multiple times. Absolute joke of a company. Also, you ask them for the refund form... They send photos of it!!! Thanks.

   This is my sister's experience of Aqua Academy. I would not recommend taking a small child here for lessons. "I am sad to say we had a terrible experience at Aqua Academy and could not recommend it to others. My son is quite nervous of deep water and swimming and his one and only lesson at Aqua Academy has made it much worse. When you arrive at the pool it is chaotic and noisy. Parents have to wait in the reception, 3 classes are taking place at the same time in the pool - parents are not allowed to watch. My son asked when we arrived why the lady was shouting at the kids in the pool and he hoped she wouldn't shout at him. This was not his instructor but she was in the lane next to him so he was frightened before he started. Children are given arm bands, sent straight into the deep end (no shallow end) and asked to start swimming lengths. He told me afterwards that he got half way across the large pool and felt frightened of the deep water and too tired to carry on. He started to cry and was made to carry on swimming. During the entirety of his lesson I could hear a child crying loudly in the pool, it was only after the lesson was finished that I found out it was my child! My son was not allowed to get out of the pool and was asked to continue swimming while he cried, no member of staff alerted me to his distress. When he got out of the pool his eyes were red raw from crying. I was trying to calm him down in the changing room when an instructor burst in, got down to his face and started shouting at him for crying. I was shocked and quite intimidated by her and I am not 5. She did not acknowledge me at all and left our changing room. I called her later to explain my son had a terrible experience and he was so frightened he would not be returning for lessons. I was told not to presume to tell her how to do her job and that all children cry and are frightened and they must push through it. Upon talking to other swim instructors with years of experience I understand this is not normal practice. When children are first learning to swim it is all about confidence building and play. If a child is terrified they are allowed to stop, seek out their parents, watch from the side until they feel comfortable to try again. The attitude of Swim Academy is downright cruel to frightened children. When I asked for a refund I was told absolutely not! It has cost be £99 for my son to be terrified. I am so shocked and upset by the attitude of Aqua Academy's Management."
