Always a pleasure each time I enter this shop to see a team of passionate and helpful staff about their work. They're a real credit to Coalville's community of small businesses. Not only a treasure trove of items for sale here, but also a treasure trove of bird-keeping knowledge!

We visited Midland Parrots Shop after travelling over an hour from Birmingham, hoping to see some birds and get advice on the best bird for our children. Unfortunately, our experience was extremely disappointing. A staff member (a woman) was not only unhelpful but outright rude to both me and my children. She didn’t acknowledge us when we entered and made us feel unwelcome from the start. When we asked about the birds, she curtly told us that they weren't for sale and we weren’t allowed to view them because "they’re theirs." This was very confusing and frustratingβ€”if it’s a bird shop, surely customers should be able to see the birds and ask questions. The scornful looks we received made the situation worse and left us feeling very uncomfortable. If you're thinking about visiting, especially if you have children or are travelling a long distance, I’d strongly advise against it. Based on our experience, this is not a customer-friendly business.

Any parrot lover will love Midland Parrots! We don't manage to visit as often as we like because we don't live locally and don't always get a lot of free time, but it's well worth a visit whenever we can! Bob the owner is very passionate about birds, and cares highly for those he raises and his many rescues! Always has time for a chat and to give any honest advice you might need - parrots are a commitment and can change your life so it's very important to know what's involved and not to buy birds on a whim, something many people might not realise, so for anyone interested in keeping birds this is best place to visit first. Parrots are family (you become their flock) and require dedicated care, stimulation and interaction (which they reward with a special bond unlike any other animal!). They are not just pretty ornaments that just sit all day and tweet (which is unfortunately how many bird owners treat them). This is why parrot owners (and especially anyone looking for their first bird) need to visit someone like Bob and his staff. There is an ever-changing selection of young hand-reared parrots available, anything from little Cockatiels and Conures (often ideal for someone that's new to parrot keeping) right up to African Greys and Macaws. When our previous caique passed away (suspected nerve issues) we knew we wanted to give another a happy home. We found Midland Parrots had some in their current selection of young parrots ready for sale, so we drove up for a visit. We were taken to see the little ones and encouraged to spend some time with them, mostly to see how the birds respond - it could be said that birds choose their owners! After a while interacting we decided to give a home to both the caiques as we didn't want to split the bond they had with each other, probably the best choice! Three months later and the caiques ("green goblins"!) have settled in extremely well, of course they're still very young, beaky and playful but starting to develop their own quirky characters! Really taken to us and love to be with us to have lots of playtime, but as we got the two birds they also keep each other occupied at times when we are not home (I put a camera on their cage so i can watch them playing together in there, and also snuggled together every night, so cute!). Showing us some of his personal rescue birds and listening to his stories it's great to see how the birds are now in a happy place and shame to hear how badly some other people treat their birds. Unlike where your generic-pet-shops will just sell anything to anyone to make a sale, Midland Parrots would rather have the birds they've raised go to good homes where they will be looked after properly (if only all other pet shops did the same, there's too many mistreated pets out there). Would love to take our caiques for a little road trip back up to MP for a visit sometime too, sure they'd to see how they're doing (but might have to wait until bird flu restrictions are lifted as I think they have to stay in the house for now), maybe also eventually get them DNA tested (when the postal workers eventually stop their strikes). Obviously not just birds for sale, but a huge array of high quality toys, food and accessories (birds get through A LOT of toys, it's in their nature to destroy them!). Plus it's a "normal" pet shop that caters for everything that non-parrot owners might also need (Coalville Pet Supplies) so great if you have cats or dogs. Location is easy to find, just south of Coalville town centre. There's a public car park across the road (just follow the one way streets to get to it) - it's pay and display unless you get a blue bay at the back where you get 1 hour free. It's easy to spend longer in the shop though, especially if spending quality time with a bird that you're considering homing (I don't think the one hour parking limit is strictly enforced but the paid white bays are also cheap, plus there's a good coffee shop a few minutes walk up into town if you want to sit and ponder!). Thank you to Bob and co, Poppy and Kiwi are doing great!

Lovely shop, took my sister for an white fronted Amazon last week, Bob was very knowledgeable and him and the lady were very friendly and approachable, Bob even took my sister through to see the fostered parrots in the back, as my sister very much loves her birds, I myself prefer dogs, I have to also comment on how the staff seemed extremely devoted to the birds, anybody who is looking at purchasing a bird, I highly recommend you visit this little gem, A little not to bob, Bessie is doing great and my sister absolutely adores her new addition. Thank you again

First visit to Midland Parrots today, it's a very well stocked shop with a great selection of parrot toys in a good range of sizes. The chap in the shop clearly knows his stuff and was happy to offer some advice to a novice bird keeper. I'll definitely be going back soon.

Found the bird we were looking for. Man in the shop was very friendly and clearly knew his stuff. We had a great chat about his parrots and he makes it known that he has the best interests of the animals at heart (please don't take this as him being rude!). Great to get the advice, and will be returning again soon.
