Turned up on the off-chance that I could get a piece from an old Black and Decker Workmate welded. Larry - the owner and welder - said he’d do it on the spot and gave me a great price. Job done — looks great. Said if there were any problems to return to get them sorted. Chatting with Larry it turns out he started out as a philosophy graduate from a Dutch university and turned to welding later in life to counter the progress of entropy! His wife completed her Contemporary Studies degree at Hatfield Polytechnic/University of Hertfordshire at the Wall Hall Campus in Aldenham where I started my academic career. Sharing these and other stories made for a great way to pass an hour or two along with getting the welding done.
