Visited Penn Tandoori for the first time for a friend’s birthday and really enjoyed the new thalis. Portions were small but there was plenty overall, and it was great value at £14.95. The staff gave a good explanation of everything and the service was excellent. They also have a bar. Would definitely return in the future.

GO TO KAPTIN KORMA INSTEAD, MUCH BETTER BUSINESS & GENUINELY HAPPY TO SERVE YOU & ABOUT HALF THE PRICE OF THESE RIP OFF MERCHANTS. Oily food, rude staff, young Indian boy trying to laugh in my face when I asked for a refund & raised valid concerns. He Was made to walk away because he couldn’t stop laughing in my face and muttering things under his breath, not too sure why this place is held in such high regard. Guy taking orders can’t even speak as he has a severe stutter, should really learn how to cook and get him away from customers cos it takes him 2 hours to speak a normal sentence, no offence just truth. Was offered to “go outside” by mr stutter who wanted to fight but then quickly backtracked when he realised I would happily go outside with him. Shocking customer service, shocking prices, shocking job role execution, must be a family business because mr stutter & mr laughter shouldn’t be anywhere near mr customer. Look at the oily food they mustered up after I’d already complained their food was too oily & had actually requested less oil in the first place, before having a 2 hour ordeal with Mr Stutter & Mr Laughter & having to practically fight a legal case to get my money back (£19 for 2 curry sauces and 2 chapatis, someone call the cops I’ve been robbed!!!). Remember the pic added is the “better” version of something I’d already asked to have replaced as my car & my kitchen table got covered in oil, after requesting less oil. You be the judge, are 2 of these & 2 chapatis worth £19? AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID. IGNORE THE PICS OF CELEBRITIES IN THE FRONT, NOT QUITE SURE WHEN TITO JACKSON WAS HERALDED FOR HIS TASTEBUDS???

Great food however I found chicken in the two curries we ordered to be rather sparse. Service was on point, staff seem to work hard to keep up with customers order. Atmosphere hmmm felt like I was sitting on top of the table next to, place is small (when full) very little privacy between tables unless you get seated along the wall. Overall I’d recommend as food is delicious and reasonably priced

I had a fantastic time at Penn Tandoori – the food was absolutely delicious, especially the biryani and mixed grill. The service was friendly and attentive, making the experience even better. Highly recommend it for a great meal and warm atmosphere!

I’ve visited here many times. I visited Friday evening 6.30. Food excellent as always but for the first time ever, I felt that I was being rushed. I was asked twice during my starter if I was ready for my main course even though I obviously had a mouthful of food and food on my plate. Staff were very polite but too keen Please be more patient in future. I will visit again but please do not let this be a normal occurrence or you will definitely lose a valued customer.

After wanting to visit the restaurant for some time, we booked a table for myself my husband and our son for a Saturday evening meal. All I can say the whole experience was totally disappointing from service but especially the food. The tikka chicken masala tasted like a whole pot of sugar had been thrown in there and the chicken was tough. The salmon must have been left under the grill and was extremely dry. Very overpriced for the standard of food being served - needless to say we won’t be visiting again. I won’t be recommending this restaurant in the future, there are far better places to spend your money.

Having visited Penn Tandoori with my family for a number of years, it’s a shame but it looks like MAYBE the rumours are true. The service tonight was shockingly bad. Firstly we were made to wait 10-15 minutes for our table, despite booking. A few new faces (perhaps the rumoured new owners) seemed to be out of their depth, staff were running around like crazy. So much for fine dining. We waited another 15 mins for our drinks to be ordered, only to arrive in soaking wet glasses. My partner was not impressed. Although the food was good, but not like before. Perhaps a one off bad night… will give them the benefit of the doubt and maybe return in the near distant future if the new custodians pull their socks up and have some manners. A far cry from the days of Mr Uddin & his two sons.

Unfortunately we didn't have a great night here. From the time we sat down all seemed very rushed, as if they wanted our table for diners coming in later. I doubt it as it was quiet on our Friday night visit, I guess down to the England v USA game. Despite a lobby with a heater, our seats near the door caught a cold draught from being left open. We did ask if they could just push it to but it was soon open again. Even with fewer people than usual it was quite noisy, made worse by competition from their rather unpleasant music. We shared an onion bhaji starter which was very enjoyable, and well presented. All was set fair for the mains but surprisingly these were a disappointment. They also arrived a bit too soon despite us asking for a short break. The wife's dish was far too oily and thin in taste as a result. My pathia was OK, excellent chicken tikka but not quite hot enough for my taste. The sides were fine but nothing more than your usual. We didn't bother with desserts. It relatively expensive place, some of the special dishes costing as much as those in more "finer" establishments. I know they can do better but sadly it didn't happen for us on the night.
