Took my GL320 in for EGR diagnostics after intermittent loss of power. I explained it had been sat for 6 weeks and was improving with use, so the EGR valve might just need cleaning, as the AA mechanic had also advised. Steve the owner said “yeah I agree, diesels like that don’t like sitting too long.” Also asked them to fit a boot latch I’d supplied, and I had already removed the old one, so job was already half done. Was never told this would cost £84 (charged as full hour labour for what was realistically 15 minutes work). Admittedly I didn’t ask, but was aware how long it should take, so expected to be paying £40 tops for half an hour at a push. Full hour was a bit cheeky. Total bill £168 for what they billed as 2 hours labour — yet they called me with details and the EGR quote within 90 minutes after I dropped off the car. The EGR quote was £801 including boot trim clips that it “needed.” When I collected the car, the trim was secure and just slightly misaligned - purely cosmetic, not necessary on an older car. From the way they said it was “needed” on the phone, I thought it was going to be hanging off, or not on at all. Definitely quote padding. I suspected the quote included another £84 labour for fitting the boot trim clips (another 15 minutes work charged as a full hour). So I called the next day at 1:30pm to ask how much to sort the EGR without the trim clips. Was told someone would call back in 30 minutes as mechanics were on lunch. They must’ve sensed I caught onto their tactics, as they never tried to call back. I then called my usual garage who quoted me £220 for the Pierburg valve MB Motors were going to fit, plus £140 for fitting — £380 total versus £801. Exact same part. They suggested a clean up might do it, so to bring it in next week for a FREE check before deciding. However, I since took the car for a long drive in low gears, high revs, to blow the cobwebs out, as I noticed diagnostic printouts showed the actuator hadn’t totally failed, but wasn’t responding as expected all of the time (which made me think it’s probably jamming on carbon buildup, as suspected all along). Problem completely cleared - no limp mode, full power, drives perfectly. So it was carbon buildup as originally suggested, not an £801 valve replacement that was needed. £168 for diagnostics that led to the wrong solution when the owner’s initial assessment that it might just need a clean was actually correct. Computer said replace, so that’s what they quoted, ignoring context and common sense. MB Motors justify pricing by comparing to main dealers, but they’re an independent garage without dealer facilities. It also doesn’t justify charging a full hour’s labour for a 15 minute job without telling customers upfront, inflating quotes, or not calling back when pricing is questioned. I don’t doubt that STAR diagnostics are good for certain faults, but for things like this, it just needed the mechanic to stick their head in for a good look. Shame they require it as standard. Avoid if you want transparent costs, practical solutions, or businesses that actually call you back.

Most fantastic garage. My car needed some serious investigation and TLC and the staff, mechanics and service team were simply amazing. They investigated the issue, fixed the car, communicated with me every step of the way and in short were simply fabulous. I cannot recommend them highly enough. Their attention to detail and expertise were matched only by the efficient service. Thank you so much!

They are the most helpful garage. I had broken down with my family because my air suspension was defective. After I was towed to the garage, they immediately took the car in and repaired it straight away. I had the car ready to drive again 2 hours later. They got the part they needed beforehand. That's some efficient organization. It would never have gone so well without Alistair (acceptance). If there were 20 stars, I would give them without hesitation

Wonderful setup, Steve & the whole team know their Mercs better than the main dealers would at a much better price. If you get a chance to speak to Steve you will enjoy his charisma too. My first port of call for any German car issues. Thank you for all your great repairs & etc

Got recommended this garage for some work on my 335D, I needed gearbox service, diff service, transfer box amongst other things, car has since been back in for service and lowering. The whole team are great. It is a specialist garage so you will pay more than your mates garage down the road but you pay for what you get. Service record updated on Idrive also. Thanks again team.

Oh how I wish this garage was in our town and not 500 miles away as I’d use them every time if I could! At the end of a holiday down south we hit a monster pothole causing the steering to our Audi SQ5 to go heavy, after speaking to the local Audi approved garage they gave me the number to mb motors (which I thought was funny seeing as the are Mercedes specialists!) and I’m so glad they did. Stevie on the tools correctly identified the issue (knackered steering rack) and gave me some solid advice, laying it down straight as he could see the scary (audi) price tag was giving me second thoughts. I agreed with what he was saying and the mb team went to action to source parts and get my car fixed. They were aware that we only had 2 days until we had to be out of our accommodation, and I could see that the garage was busy, they moved mountains to make sure I could safely drive my family the 500 miles back to Scotland without delay. From the very nice lady at the desk, to the guys on the spanner’s this is a rock solid professional team and we will always be grateful for what they did for us, and a special mention to Stevie who even messaged me to make sure we got home ok, they’re lucky to have you there, I hope they pay you well!

The amazing Steve was able to fix my 1.6 Audi when other places had not been able! I had been car less for almost five weeks due to no mechanic being able to solve my cars issue yet Steve had it for 24hours and not only diagnosed the problem but fixed it too! Top quality service, 100% recommend anyone to MB Motors! Both members of staff that I came into contact with were welcoming, polite and helpful.
