Absolutely awful service. After being under CRISIS team I was transferred back over to my psychiatric consultant in Tonna. I was under the CRISIS team after having adverse side effects of medication following a recent suicide attempt. I remember vividly that I was told on more than 1 occasion that there was a high chance that my children would commit suicide if I continued, especially if I was successful in my attempt. As if I didn't feel guilty enough?! Is that really something that should be said to a vulnerable person? I was advised that if I hadn't had hallucinations after overdosing, I wouldn't have been referred to them in the first place! I'd have been off on my merry way, back home without any support in place! This is one of many things that is wrong with the mental health teams, once I was transferred to Tonna CAMHS department, my psychiatric consultant got extremely defensive when I told him that I never received his "phone call" when both me and my husband were at home. No missed calls on both landline or mobile, no voicemails were left when voicemail is available. He got to the point he was irate. Thankfully my social worker was attending the meeting, even she was shocked at how unprofessional he was being! I have anorexia where I over-exercise to counter balance my binges. However following trauma after giving birth, I'm unable to do anything high impact exercising, which was how I coped mentally. Since this, and several other factors, I've not been able to keep my weight under control. My husband requested that I be referred to the eating disorder team, and my consultant said, you won't be a priority because you're not under weight! Not a priority. Eating disorders can negatively impact a person whether they're underweight or overweight! Diabetes, fatty liver disease, heart attacks, strokes due to veins and arteries clogged... Again my social worker was shocked. I got so upset at the manner he conducted himself, I had to leave his office. And he wonders why I have trust issues with mental health teams?! Unfortunately, mental health teams are often overlooked and under budgetted. And heck, don't I know it. After I was under the CRISIS team for around 6 months. Yes, I know that their care is normally short term - I really was under their care that long. I had less than 5 appointments with CAMHS then I've been left for nearly a year and no contact, no support! They "drugged" me up to my eyeballs on medication to the point I couldn't feel anything emotionally. I questioned this. That wasn't coping, that was sweeping things under the carpet. To which my consultant replied, that's the idea!! (Until I was seen by yet another professional... where I'd have to explain yet again everything down to the minute detail, which is traumatic in itself. Especially when you had different people carrying the appointments out each week. Not ideal. But again, it was down to budgets. Not enough staff and so on. Being left with no support, apart from "You can contact us in office hours, and 111 out of office." When someone, well for me personally, feels suicidal, I know I wouldn't reach out to contact anyone for help. Anyway, fast forward to nearly a year on, feeling very much the same, now with the added guilt of being a bad parent if I were to try again. No-one wants to be in the position where the only option to drown out the chaotic noise of your past traumas leave you peering over the edge of a cliff, waiting for a big enough wave to sweep you out of bounds... Nearly a year on (sorry for waffling on..), I do actually receive a call, unfortunately one that I missed. It was then followed up with a text advising me that my appointment for the 11th had been cancelled??? I never received a letter for an appointment in the first place! What a joke... There's no positive consistency, the only consistency is that their service is unfortunately lacking. Whether it's a result of low budget, shouldn't matter in terms of the quality and care each individual needs.

Have ADHD and struggle with going outside? Look no further, here at Tonna Hospital you can live your worst nightmares every month! Need your medicine at your local GP? No! Can't get to the hospital because it's in the middle of nowhere? Too bad! I've never seen a more dysfunctional place in my life and I live in the UK so that says a LOT.

Absolute disgrace. I have been bullied by staff as I could not get there to pick up a script, essentially called lazy, they even went into their own mental health problems to imply they can handle theirs and life why can't I?! Also have been discharged twice this year as although I have opted for teleconsults they book them as face to face. I told them this is incorrect on receipt of the appointment letter, they told me they have changed the appointment to teleconsult but actually did not. This results in a DNA and discharge to GP. Incompetence at it's finest or liars without a conscience. Evidence points to the later...

Phone just rings or I get cut off. Promises of call backs from CMHT but nothing. Direct line goes unanswered, no option to leave a message. I appreciate services are stretched but WAG can somehow afford how many millions on new 20mph road sign's. No wonder so many service users are in CRISIS. Don’t even get me started on NPT Crisis Team. Discharged my sister who subsequently committed suicide in April 2023 aged 50.

Absolutely awful. 3 years of jumping through hoops, wrong medications and then losing my adhd assessment so now have to fill it out again & wait to attend another appointment. When you phone, nobody answers. 6 months waiting between appointments. It's just not good enough. Nobody there wants to help.

Disgusted how people are left in such an awful state .. after being told my son would have a phone call back .. as usual ..NOTHING!!!! They have started and stopped him on so many different tablets in the past that he doesn’t know where he is!!!! and none of them are helping!!!! They just don’t care!! As a family we are getting desperate now.. there is absolutely no help out there for mental health people are just left to suffer it’s so cruel.. I honestly thought this hospital would be different.

The staff at tonna are all amazing. My son was being treated cruelly at Cefn Coed, they were killing him slowly but within days of being moved to tonna I saw a massive improvement because the staff care and he continued to get better. They literally saved my son's life and now I have him back because of the staff. My hugest thank you to you all. E Thomas - mother of Mathew Thomas

Suite 2 were absolutely fabulous with our father. The care was excellent and their support towards ourselves was brilliant. All the staff were knowledgeable and showed great compassion to our father during his last months, days and hours. A heart felt thank you to Bev and her team.
