We enjoyed a lovely birthday celebration with 25 guests at The Crown on Saturday afternoon, the 20th December 2025, having exclusive (but room hire free !) exclusive use of the separate restaurant area at the rear of the inn. All the guests commented on the high standard of catering for the hot&cold canapé finger buffet provided by The Crown. The champagne and wines supplied by the inn were fine. The manager and front of house team on the day were very attentive and responsive to any requests we made and all in all we were very pleased at our choice of venue for the event. Thank you to all concerned at The Crown ! PS : I haven’t given a rating for “the atmosphere”, as this was a private event (but just for the record, it was great !!!!). We hired the upstairs function room for a 40th birthday party and can't fault it. Really good atmosphere, the staff were helpful throughout and the buffet was excellent quality. Would definitely recommend.

Quiet due to time of day, food was good value and good portion size but lacked flavour. Service was superb

I don’t like to leave bad reviews, but the experience I just had eating here is probably worth the management reflecting on so they can improve. We came in for dinner, and happened to be the only people in the entire restaurant. After ordering, I was later informed that the steak and Guinness pie had run out so chose something else. From here it was a very long wait for the food, despite only one other table of two arriving and the restaurant being empty. When the food arrived it was presented quite well. Unfortunately the standard of both meals was poor. In particular the mashed potato I had was hard and lumpy, like it had been microwaved. No one came to check on us during the meal, nor did they come to collect our plates. After a long wait, we just paid the bill at the bar on the way out. Very odd experience, hopefully not representative of how things are normally done at the Crown. The quality of food alone was enough to put me off coming back, but the empty restaurant and staff simply abandoning us in the restaurant just showed no care for what’s going on. Music was alright.

Nice enough place, service nice but a little slow. Ham egg and chips came with far too many fat roast potato-style chips. Raised this with the barman and he thought it was funny. Seriously, there were enough chips for three people. Steak ciabatta was lovely, apart from the ciabatta bread was English style - close-textured and nothing like real ciabatta? Apart from that it was ok. Will go again.

Excellent service from the staff can't fault them. Third time of going back ordering the same food each time but unfortunately third time wasn't lucky. Undercooked and told chef was in a bad mood. Not my problem as a paying customer. Yes change of management and obviously Chef. Won't be paying the price for something I could of cooked at home to a better standard. Change the Chef and do yourselves a favour. Really ruined a what should of been a lovely evening.

We came in on a sunny Saturday afternoon (3 families) to a ' Yes no problem we welcome you' attitude! From the warm welcome to the yummy food we left happy and content. Definitely recommend for impromptu drinks to a dinner date (adults had mains, kids had children's menu). Highly recommend as we really had a great experience and there were 12 of us!

Nice pub with good range of food on the menu. Went for dinner on a Monday and was very quiet.

The worst crumble ever. What seemed like crushed digestives with a boatload of cinnamon uncooked and put on top of stewed apples. Shame as service was outstanding and attentive. Roast was pretty bad too: burnt roasts, beef reheated on a grill, uncooked cabbage and leeks. Won't be back for food. The Irish/folk band that appeared at 5 was a bonus.
