The full probate administration service for my late mother's estate provided by Barwells was overall excellent. In my role as executor I felt well supported and represented by Ria Emin, Stephen Ash and their colleagues. Their fees were very reasonable and despite a demanding level of communications, no additional costs were changed on top of the initial quote. The process to completion of estate administration took longer than expected but I am none the less highly satisfied with the service provided. I will gladly recommend Barwells and return to them for future legal services I may require.

Per a comment below, regarding the failure to complete key paperwork, I also experienced the same issue four years ago. In addition, the service provided was slow and there was limited evidence of enquiries being raised specific to my purchase - aside from the generic ones. This matter was escalated to the ombudsman following an unsatisfactory response by Barwells.
After a slowish start Paul Chaloner pulled out all the stops to provide a first class service in helping to sell our property. On more than one occasion he managed to put life back into an increasingly moribund deal and coped brilliantly with buyers’ solicitors who were shamefully inept by comparison. I would happily recommend his and his assistant, Alison’s, services to anyone.
It has taken me a while to decide whether to leave a review for Barwells, however, I feel it is only fair to write an honest account of my experience with them to help those that may be considering their services. We were referred to Barwells by our mortgage broker. As young, first time buyers we were somewhat naive, had minimal understanding of the house buying and conveyancing process and we were hoping we would be able to rely on the various professionals who we were paying to act in our interest to guide us through the process with this in mind. Overall our experience with Barwells was that their communication was not very forthcoming. We often found ourselves having to chase them for responses to questions and updates on where we were in the process. I understand that this is probably fairly normal with a lot of Solicitors but it is nonetheless frustrating and in my view unprofessional when paying a lot of money for a service. We were very happy when we completed in the end and assumed Barwells had completed all the necessary paperwork when receiving their final invoice. It wasn't until last year whilst I was looking back over some of the purchase documents that I noticed something was missing. It seemed that Barwells never transferred the share of freehold from the vendors into our names. I had to check with the Land Registry to confirm for myself . Obviously I was quite shocked and not a little worried that our solicitors had failed to finalise such a key part of the purchase process. I decided the best thing to do was to re-contact them about this issue. They did respond promptly and promised to look into. Once they realised their mistake they were apologetic and advised that they would carry out the transfer now. To be fair they did deal with the matter in an expedited manner and the freehold was eventually successfully transferred as it should've been 9 years ago. Accept for an apology, and reimbursing us for some of the new costs which were incurred Barwells made no other attempt to recompense me for the serious mistake that they made.
