I’ve shopped in the woodyard for a few years now, usually ok. I called up today to see if they had an item I needed, just two things in total, an uncut piece of wood (which I knew the location of) and some patching plaster. Should have taken a couple of minutes. I asked on the phone what time they close and was told 12. So I made a special trip to the woodyard and arrived at 11:55. I immediately went running over to get the wood from the store but was told that they are closed. I said I’d asked on the phone what time they closed and based on this had made a special trip. The member of staff said ‘They close at 12’. I said ‘it still isn’t 12’. So they said ‘yeah but we don’t close exactly then because we want to leave at 12’. I told them it was only one or two items but they just refused. To me this was a simple matter, just serve the customer who has travelled down based on the time told or tell him the correct time in the first place. If you want to leave at 12 then you should tell customers and advertise that you close at 11:45. They were unapologetic. I always try to shop local. It isn’t the cheapest but I would always prefer it. They are competing with Amazon, Screwfix etc so it is good to support local when you can. The best thing about shopping local should be the customer service. Sadly their lack of care today makes me prefer the bigger players. They have cost themselves a few hundred pounds a year for the small cost of not closing early and sticking to what they said on the phone and the website.

Justin, Josh and Oli are a great team. Super kind, easy to talk to, and genuinely attentive. They listened with care, responded with precision, and delivered beyond expectations. A truly courteous and capable team.

Excellent find! Very helpful staff and very welcoming. Reasonably priced and good quality supplies. Don't rely on Google maps to find this place, head towards the back of Tesco, see a floor sign 'ACCESS ONLY' go over this and down this short road and take a right at the green railings.

What a find! Extremely helpful staff, well stocked with timber and machining capability to meet individual size requirements. Tricky to find on the first visit but we'll worth the effort.

I've been to The Wood Yard a few times recently for different wood, and have found it completely different to the negative reviews posted here. The prices are very keen, cutting is excellent, and all the staff are unfailingly helpful & polite. Outstanding service, thank you.

Brilliant service at excellent price. After searching online for a plywood cutting service and being horrified by quotes of over £150, I found The Wood Yard in Whitchurch. Perfect find. One sheet of ply and the job done for under £20, and sorted same day. Well done guys!!

Went to the Woodyard this morning to have a 2 keys cut. The man behind the reception/till was on the computer. He didn't get up off his seat - so I told him what I wanted. He informed me that the staff member who cut keys was busy doing some maintenance, so would do it on his return. I was told to leave the 2 keys on the counter. I advised him I had shopping to do, so would return later. I returned after 1 hour and 30 minutes, and found the keys where I had left them on the counter. I said "oh my keys haven't been cut then?", the same gentleman who was still sitting at the computer informed me, no they hadn't been done - as the staff member was longer doing the maintenance job than expected and then he had gone on his lunch. I was told, he would be back, soon so I could wait. I informed him I had frozen goods in my car, so couldn't wait. I found the lack of customer service unbelievable! I tried to give the business to a local company rather than go to the chain run locksmith in town - but it was quite obvious to me, they didn't care and mustn't need the business. It's very dissapointing and I wouldn't bother returning to give them any custom in future. The most frightening think is- I only have 1 of each of they keys I left on the counter and if they had gone missing, I would not have been able to access the property I had just bought. Anyone, could have taken them in the 90 minutes they were left- as in my view the gentleman who spoke to me had forgotten all about them and never told the locksmith about my keys or the job I wanted doing.
