I am now a second-year student with Bedford College, and following my review of the last academic year, the college has not improved. In fact, many factors have worsened. Internal complaints from me and other students have seemingly not been taken greatly into account. The care and childcare department appear to employ a number of agency-based lecturers on short contracts who present a frankly poor quality of teaching; they are unprepared (use AI to help teach their own lessons), unprofessional, can't leave their phones alone and get students to do their own work to prepare for assignments rather than teach effectively. This college appear to lack any form of actual discipline for students who display no interest or passion in learning, the college make many rules clear within the first induction week, but move on to enforce them extremely lightly. This makes the experience for students who want to be here quite difficult. Compared to last academic year, onboarding in my department has been even less organised. Quite unprofessional. The college has a decent amount of parking and charges a fair tariff for students to pay, and has present mental health and safeguarding services. Besides from vocational courses, it would appear that English and Mathematics GCSE teaching has improved, with more structure in their approach to help students pass their GCSE exams.

Spoke to a woman so I could get enrolled at Bedford college the women was so rude made me wait because I there was a part I hadn’t finished on my student loan so I redid it took me 45 mins then I finished it and she said she had been told she could leave early so she made me leave so I’m having to go back to Bedford which is an hour drive from me I am unsure of the women’s name but she was very rude to me and she had short dark curly hair

As a current member of Bedford college, I agree with most bad reviews. It can be a hit or miss state on the college, depending courses. For example, I am an art student, and I took fashion but have decided to switch to Fine art for next year. The interview process went okay for me, and I was accepted on the spot and even offered a place, but they didn't log me. So it kept asking me to come in for interviews over and over again until my dad called, which it turns out they did not mark me down to have a place. I almost did not get a place for September because of this, shocking much? I say there are some tutors out there that do really want to help, but others don't. In my experience, I felt my course was lacking, for a fashion course we didn't really do much based on fashion, and make a bunch of art medias but never clothes or clothing items. At the start of the year, our tutor was meant to teach us how to use the sewing machines, but she never did. She only helped the people that had knowledge on them better themselves while leaving the rest of us to the wolves. Not to mention, most course tutors have a lack of discipline for late students and students that have late work, they usually never seem to be punished? Not to mention they won't do anything about bullying unless it's reoccurring, which to me is just wow. I have delt with the issues of racism and bullying, but nothing was done. The racism was sorted after I made a scene and got my parents involved, but they took the side of the other person because they deemed them as a smaller minority. After they made a racist comment to me. And lastly, I will say this loudly and proudly it's blatantly obvious that some tutors have favourites and favour them in situations, making others seem worse, which is unfair? UPDTATE: I have switched to fine art and really enjoy it! Marco is a great teacher. He really does want to help people, and make sure that you and the class are mentally ok! He is one of the best in my opinion at least, He does his best to check in on you make sure that all is well. WHAT YOU GUYS COULD CHANGE: - Fix bullying at the start. - Listen to both sides. - Discipline students properly. - Longer lunches as sometimes it's not enough for people with disabilities to walk into town to get cheaper food as the cafΓ© can be expensive. - Cheaper cafΓ© food & Healthier cafΓ© food. - CafΓ© should accept cash too, as it's card only, and some people don't have cards which means they can't eat. - Tutors to stop having blatantly obvious favourites and favouring them in situations. - SOME tutors need to be informed better on people with disabilities as they can be extremely harsh to them. Please educate them.

Very helpful, friendly, polite, efficient staff. The advisor I had email contact with was very polite, and efficient, as well as being warm, and satisfying me, and answering my questions.

Experience depends entirely on your course. In my experience as a health and social care student, this department is understaffed and unorganised. My class have not learned a single thing for at least four consecutive weeks, while assignments are still being posted without them teaching the actual material. Procedures such as paying for trips that don’t actually happen and inductions are all over the place. The college show very little discipline for students who constantly arrive to classes late and have multiple late assignments, which has a negative effect on students who want to learn. The safeguarding team and pastoral skills of Bedford College are relatively good and there contact details are clear.

The staff are really person centered on Childcare level 3. They will push you to your best potential. Any questions you have they will always put you in the best hands if they can't answer it themselves. Really happy with the college. The learning support team are exceptional so patient and work at your pace also. Very greatful

I forget the lady's name, but she was a lovely Asian lady who lived in Queens Park like I used to. She had a warm smile, spoke very clearly. She understood my issue and went through the options available. Never rushed. I never felt like an inconvenience. She even helped setup my portal for me, so when I got home I was able to logon and share with my wife. Brilliant attitude and had a good understanding of the courses we spoke about.
