What a cozy, welcoming pub/restaurant this is. As you enter the aroma of burning wood is so reassuring. The staff are welcoming and friendly and you settle into enjoying the food and drink that is to follow. Sadly, that is where my positive review ends I am so sorry to say. Never been before, and as with any new place, I remain completely open to the odd mistake or slight blip on either the food or service. Very sadly, I have to report that the food and drink are very over priced! The presentation and value for money of the dishes lacks quality, flavour and value for money. I had the Ham Hock Terrine which was wafer thin and 2 slices just above the size of a matchbox! The Sea bass was sat in burnt flavoured oil and soggy small roasted potatoes. My first food choice was unavailable, which at 6pm was a little surprising. The wine menu handed to me was good, if not pricy, but again what I ordered was not available and I was told I should never have been given that wine list! Eh?!?!?. There were 6 of us in the party and all were served small portions of food with a price tag far in access of the quality and food on the plate. Service was very unreliable, with us having to keep asking for things that had been forgotten to be served. Indeed, I had to ask where the wine was to be told, “Oh yes, we don’t have it and I shouldn’t have given you that wine list.” A bill, in access of £340, for 4 starters, 5 main course, one bottle of wine and pre dinner drinks plus a child’s meal was the final straw. Will we go back to- we all agreed no. I am sorry to write this review but I tell it as it was and the times I write bad reviews are few and far between.

The food was good and the service was better. The Hake Kiev was very nice served crumbed on some beans but the promised spinach was missing or hidden. The beef pie came with nothing, was a Hampshire pudding with some beef underneath. The dauphinois potato was a compressed dry chunk with the beef suet pie. No veg were served with either £20+ meal. The others had fish and chips but mushy peas were off and garden peas offered. There were other clients in our eating area with dogs which is disgusting. Table service was very good and accurate. I wouldn't go there again because the meals were good but small and dear plus there were dirty dogs in the dining area. If I hadn't been with a reunion group, I would have left due to barking dogs before the food had been delivered.

Visited mid week and were almost universally disappointed with the prices charged for each dish, an average burger (no side), with chips for £20, an v small under cooked lamb for £32 (albeit that was returned and removed from the bill), and a small Dover sole for £32. Prices like this set high expectations, which the food fell short of. A bottle of SB white wine £46! (£16 in Waitrose) The corn ribs for £8 were good, and the service from Ben was v good. Unlikely to return soon.

This is my 1st time visiting The White Horse. The food was absolutely beautiful and the cocktail I had was delicious. The staff were all very friendly, polite and very helpful. Megan our waitress was lovely, making sure we had everything we needed for our lunch. We sat and ate at the back of the bar, its was lovely sitting on the window seats. It was lovely and quiet, and peaceful. The best way to enjoy lunch.

Jess and the team recently hosted us for a surprise 50th wedding anniversary celebration for my parents. This all started in the spring of 2021 with the event to be held late summer. Unfortunately due to one of the guests of honour contracting covid, we were forced to rearrange that booking to January 2022. Jess was extremely helpful and understanding and helped us with all the upheaval of having to rearrange. Well yesterday was the day and with flu now affecting a few of our guests, once again, Jess was extremely accommodating with the necessary changes in guest numbers. We finally managed to hold the event and boy, what an event! The atmosphere, decor, readiness to help from the team, the food and drinks, I simply could not have asked for a better event! My parents were totally taken aback and had the most wonderful day. So a huge THANK YOU to Jess and All the Team at the White Horse, we will be back for more meals.

Saved the day when another establishment let us down. They took a party of 7 in at last minute notice on a Monday night. Lovely servers and accurate orders taken and delivered. Majority of party really enjoyed their food but I would avoid the crab linguine. Puddings good value and tasty. Fish and chips and ale pie looked like best food choices.

Tried out this venue for breakfast and not disappointed. Service was good and food very tasty with many ingredients locally sourced. Decor was homely and well presented with even a small gift area at the entrance. Lots of outdoor seating, lots of parking and a children’s play area. A great place for brunch.
