   I joined The Tōukon Academy in 2020 and had been training at other academies for 3-years beforehand. Dave's no-nonsense approach to jiu jitsu and his well structured teaching through a clear/concise curriculum that covers variations of weekly techniques/fundamentals, is both easy to understand but more importantly (I think) is the explanation of concepts in such a way that enables you to retain this information beyond the class. The team are all supportive of one another and there's a real sense of community where "we're all in this together", helping and learning from each other. Dave also hosts world class seminars with the likes of Mauricio Gomes, the G.O.A.T. Roger Gracie and Rayron Gracie. The academy caters to all age groups but as an older guy (50+) who started this at age 46, it's never too late to learn and I highly recommend the beginners four-week course as an introduction to BJJ.

   Friendly and supportive environment to study Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. The coaches are all highly skilled and knowledgeable. The community spirit is second to none. Perfect for anyone wanting to compete or just take up a new hobby. The course syllabus is carefully curated and crafted to support growth - for an absolute newbie with no experience like myself it has been the best decision I ever made to join the Toukon Academy. I only wish I had made the decision earlier.

   I highly recommend the Tōukon BJJ Academy in Bedford for anyone interested in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Head Coach David Webb is an exceptional instructor with 25+ years of knowledge and experience, and who is genuinely invested in your progress. There is a great culture within the club that extends to the Toukon Academy's located in St Neots and Norwich. There are classes all week that cater for all skill levels, from complete beginners to advanced practitioners and for those wanting to compete.

   Having just completed my first 100 days as a member at the Tōukon Academy, I can honestly say it was the best decision. Having heard so many great things about the art, through friends and podcasts, I knew it was something I had to try. The Tōukon Academy is an exceptional martial arts school that truly stands out in both its teaching and community spirit. David Webb the professor and owner at the Tōukon Academy, is a fantastic teacher and mentor and is always so welcoming and really puts me at ease - he shows a real interest in you as a person. His knowledge and enthusiasm for the sport is truly inspiring. David is supported by coaches Sunny and Harrison, who are both fantastic teachers, with in-depth knowledge, that can break down often complicated movements with ease. David and his team are incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and passionate about their craft, creating a welcoming and motivating environment for students of all levels. Whether you're a complete beginner or an experienced practitioner, the academy offers a variety of classes that focus on skill development, discipline, and respect. The facilities are top-notch, providing ample space for training and a clean, safe atmosphere. I’ve found the academy’s approach to teaching to be very thorough, focusing not just on technique, but also on personal growth and confidence-building. The sense of camaraderie among the students is equally impressive, fostering an inclusive and supportive environment.    The Tōukon Academy is a very welcoming, friendly environment and has a wealth of knowledge. The introduction classes are perfect to ease into the sport as a beginner, each class is essentially a master class from David, Sunny and Harrison. The level of detail and help is second to none. The gym is set up for high level competition, but they do not push this on you at all, great for competing or as a hobby. Thank you David and the team.

   I started to Toukon Academy after a disappointed couple of lessons at another club where the consistency in training I feel was lacking. After attending a class I jumped straight in with both feet, best decision I made for my Jiu-Jitsu. The quality of training at Toukon Academy is very good with techniques broken down into detail and time is spent ingraining those techniques. The tuition is second to none for me as a mere white belt and several black belts have been graded here. Classes are popular and the students show good understanding of Jiu-Jitsu. The introductory course is good value for money as you essentially pay for a Gi and belt. Rolling sessions are hard, as it should be, but higher grade belts are just as helpful to aid you in your development with tips and analysis or your positions. It is a pleasant place to train and everybody is made to feel welcome. Words often used but when your Professor can recall the names of every student .......

   Having just completed my first 100 days, I thought now would be a great time to give The Toukon Academy the kind of review it deserves. I started my 4 week introductory course last year and was hooked after the first couple of sessions. I came to learn Jiu-Jitsu but I decided to stay because of how fantastic a Coach Dave is. His level of passion, enthusiam and patience is next to none. It's clear Dave's spent time learning so much more than he needs to know to coach Jiu-Jitsu, I think he might know the name of every muscle and bone in the body! He's a master of his craft and he cares about every student in the class, I've seen him welcome multiple new starters and immediately put them at ease. So if you're interested in learning Jiu-Jitsu, sign up for the next 4 week introductory course and you'll get great coaching, with a great community as well. See you on the mats!
