   I'm one step closer to my brand new tooth, despite being MANY years past the age of new teeth. Thanks to Neena and Mariska at Heathwood Dental I had a smooth, pain free, easy impant of the 'socket' into my upper right jaw yesterday that will get it's new shiny tooth in just a few months. The two of them were very professional, explained clearly the process before and during, and I could even see pics of the new implant along side my other teeth. 24 hours on - no pain, no bleeding, just 'soft food' and careful cleaning; looking forward to the final stages soon. Thank you Neena and Mariska!

   Heathwood Dental is a fantastic dental practice. Dr Vishal Kumar is very knowledgeable, highly skilled and always takes the time to talk through any proposed treatment and particular techniques/materials used. I recently had revisions of a couple of fillings and from start to finish the whole process was quick and comfortable. Dr Kumar was kind and reassuring talking through each stage of the treatment and I knew I was in safe and skilled hands. I would highly recommend Heathwood Dental.

   I transferred to the Kings Road site when Vishal took over Heathwood Dental Practice from Dr Smith in 2005, it formerly being located in Ellis Road. Moving from a known dentist to someone new has always been of some concern to me but I need not have worried. From the outset I recognised that Vishal was enthusiastic, extremely competent and keen to adopt new, less-invasive treatments when they were licensed. I was impressed the first time I received a local anaesthetic, when Vishal used a pressure point in the gum to significantly reduce the feeling as the needle went in. Over the years, as new technology became available, Vishal has adopted it. I recall that the first major advance I experienced was the use of abrasive dust (rather like a mini shot blaster) to remove decayed material from inside a tooth. The dust is harder than the decay but softer than the healthy dentine and enamel. It is not suitable for every case of decay but this was a 'side entry' procedure to avoid having to drill out an existing amalgam filling in the top of the tooth. More recently, Vishal has begun to use Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF) for the treatment of decay. This is a procedure where the majority of soft decay is removed mechanically (not necessarily drilling), then treated with the SDF liquid to neutralises bacteria and present a stable surface or cavity, which can be covered or filled with a white filling. In my experience, surface decay near a receding gumline (due to old age) does not provide a good finish to permanently retain a thin white covering. That is of no concern to me because my main requirement is to stabilise the decay and keep the tooth. Vishal was aware that SDF was used in other countries and tried to obtain it before it was licensed for use in the UK. Unfortunately, he was unsuccessful - I would have benefitted! Vishal will do everything he can to save a tooth but prefers Neena to do the extraction if all else fails. I have found her to be competent, gentle and has a good sense of humour. She is also trained in the use of SDF and the use of the various techniques used by Vishal, whose intention is to have all qualified practice staff trained in their use. It seems that very few practices are using SDF at the moment. Everyone I have encountered at Heathwood Dental is friendly and it is the Ideal place for children and those of a nervous disposition to go for dental care.

   Absolutely first rate service. Incredible expertise and use the latest techniques and materials. I travel nearly an hour to go here as it's by far, the best practise I have ever been to by a considerable margin. I don't think anyone actually 'relishes' going to the dentist but when you get there, it's a friendly and warming atmosphere from reception desk to surgery. You get reassuring updates on what's being done throughout with soothing music in the background and that makes all the difference. Can't recommend highly enough.

He is knowledgeable, skilled and reassuring. I have been treated by Emily Porter as a Dental Hygienist Therapist and, again, could not be more satisfied.

The result was amazing; absolutely implacable. Vishal is the type of dentist who will apologise beforehand if he may make you uncomfortable. Not only do my teeth and gums feel so much cleaner and healthier, but my teeth look fantastic as well (especially two of my composite bonded teeth, which were quite stained before I went for my appointment).
