Is it fair to pay more on the day of your appointment? I'm asking because this is what I experienced on Saturday 25th Jan 2025. I've been going to HL in Chellaston for 3 years. I hate dyeing my own hair at home as I struggle to reach the back so I always ask for an apprentice and pay that price, as I'm not looking for anything fancy just a root cover up and blow dry. 3 hours prior to my appointment they called me to say the apprentice had been promoted and the price difference is double! I asked why I wasn't informed prior or even a week before when I came in for my patch test. They told me they were too busy to ring clients and the price increase is on their social media page. I explained I don't have social media and I don't think it's fair to be told on the day especially as I couldn't find anywhere else on the spot and the fact I had booked this appt for an event I had that day. I asked if the price could be honoured at the time of booking and because I wasn't informed a day before or earlier. The young lady said she'd try and get a discount for me. The Manger (from the Oakwood branch, as the mgr at the Chellaston branch wasn't there) wasn't willing to do that, she also said because I haven't been in a while it would take more dye to colour my roots. I knew this wasn't true as I've been going for years and always leave several months between colour appts. I was annoyed and didn't think this was fair and I shouldn't be put on the spot. I think it's very poor customer services. I don't have a problem with paying extra, it was the manner in which it was done and handled that I didn't like and wasn't genuine. So I cancelled my appt and told them they'd lost a customer. Since then no one has bothered to call me back not even the manager. So it goes to show in the end everyone is just a number not a valued client.
I decided to book a same day spontaneous haircut and it was my first time going to this salon. I was very lucky that Taylor had a cancelation that day and I took one of the slots available. I had in my mind to make a change and get rid of my long hair. Taylor was absolutely amazing talking me through the plan to get my hair as short as I wanted to and I actually went even further than I would have if it wasn't for her amazing advice! I absolutely love my short hair now and will stick to this style for a while. I will 100% go back and book another haircut with Taylor soon.
