Avoid at All Costs - Dreadful Communication We used Parfitt Cresswell (Reading) for conveyancing on a flat in Dec 2024. Our solicitor, Robert, was shockingly uncommunicative. Weeks would go by with zero updates. We had to chase every time just to get a response. He ignored emails, missed promised deadlines, and always blamed being “busy.” I raised concerns about this twice, on 31 Jan and 29 Mar, and nothing improved. From 17 April to 5 June, we heard nothing at all. When we informed them we were pulling out, they replied with a progress update, the irony. We were also assigned a trainee, Abbie, who was copied into every email but provided no proactive support or follow through either. Robert did give some sound legal advice at a few points, but legal insight means very little when it’s buried under a mountain of miscommunication, passivity, and neglect. If you’re a first-time buyer or value basic communication, do not use this firm. They made a stressful process even worse. I’d strongly advise others to stay away.

Excellent service from Jo Martin and her assistant Mandy Hinton at the Reading office on the sale of my elderly mother's house. Since neither party was in a chain, exchange and completion happened smoothly within just a couple of weeks. Communication was good and I would certainly recommend Jo and Mandy.

I have bought and sold a number of properties and always use Mandy and her team at Charles Coleman as my solicitors. Their efficiency and overall focus on delivering for clients is second to none and I would thoroughly recommend them to anyone looking to buy or sell property. A first class business.

I have nothing but praise for Jo Martin and her Team at Charles Coleman & Co, Reading for the way they have managed three house selling/ purchase that I have been involved with. Highly professional, they have kept us informed every step of the way. We changed our minds about a property half the way through the process, but Jo appeared to regard this as a minor 'bump in the road', sorted things out and still delivered within the time frame required. Thank you so much.

As first time buyers we had many questions and Jo and Mandy were fantastic in answering them and helping us through the process. Our sale was speedy [just over two months!] and they were efficient and highly organised, as well as reasonably priced. Many conveyancers have inspired horror stories, but this experience was exemplary. Highly recommend!

We used Jo and her team to carry out the process for the sale of our property, and what a great job she did This was a difficult process for us, and there were many hurdles along the way, but Jo and her team handled these and kept us in the picture of what was going on and when. We would highly recommend Jo, and would have no second thought if we ever need to move again Thank you Paul and Karen

We recently engaged Jo Martin of Charles Coleman to act on our behalf for a house sale/purchase. We are not local to Jo/Charles Coleman, but they came highly recommended. Jo, Mandy and the supporting team were fantastic in what turned out to be a marathon 9 month roller-coaster ride. We were rarely left with any questions to ask, as all our questions had been asked in advance, by Jo. Equally, the pace and efficiency of the work was second to none. Being able to communicate via email was a breath of fresh air. From experience, there are solicitors that YOU need to be on top of to ensure things are dealt with in a timely manner, and then there are those like Jo and Charles Coleman, who you can wholeheartedly trust, knowing they're on top of every little thing! I would highly recommend the services of Jo Martin and Charles Coleman and cant praise them enough for the service they provided during our house move. Whilst the process was stressful, none of the stress was caused by Jo/CC and I would say they even helped keep the stress levels down when things got quite tricky. Thanks again!

We asked for advice on a disputed will of which my wife was the beneficiary. The Partner who did this work claimed that this was her specialist field. The advice received was; a) late b) barely adequate c) only put in writing once we had made it clear that we would not be paying until they had done so. Most of the Partner's effort was devoted to pursuing her bill. When I suggested that her bill would receive the same (tardy) attention that she had given to completing her work she threatened to charge interest on the bill.
