had a very good experience on my competent crew course. The school is professional, provides great kit and my instructor Richard was excellent. The school caters and adapts to all abilities, encouraging you on your sailing journey. You'll get lots of practical experience and a great tour of the Solent. Will return for the day Skipper course.

Richard was an exceptional instructor. He was patient and compassionate with beginners. I always felt safe in the roughest of water. The quality of instruction was excellent and fun.

I had the most amazing sailing experience doing my Day Skipper Practical course. Rachel, our instructor for the week, is a force of nature, able to instil enthusiasm, passion and knowledge about sailing, constantly teaching us new things, pushing us out of our comfort zone while always keeping us safe, always going the extra mile to answer our questions. We were blessed by a wonderful weather and we clocked 150 nautical miles zipping up and down the Solent. highly recommended!

Had a fantastic couple of days with Alex doing the Day Skipper course at Hamble Sailing School. The whole weekend was a great experience — really well-structured, with a strong focus on practical learning. Alex’s teaching style was spot on: clear, patient, and encouraging, with plenty of good conversation along the way. He has a great coaching approach that helps refine skills and build confidence. The boat was well-maintained and very well provisioned.

Thanks to the Hamble School of Yaching for providing an outstanding RYA training REVS course. Our exceptional instructor, Sam Connelly, skillfully guided the learning journey with lots of inspiration and empathy. The equally brilliant crew, including Lloyd, Lionel, and Lars, contributed extensive knowledge and skills, making the experience highly educational and enjoyable. Special appreciation to Diane for the warm welcome at the school. The course was conducted aboard the Orinoco Flow, a perfectly equipped and victualled Jeanneau 37. I am profoundly grateful to the entire team for creating a very positive and enriching training environment. Without a doubt, HSY and Sam Connelly stand out as the best choice for sailing and navigation coaching.

I attended an excellent RYA First Aid course at HSY (the instructor was Tim). The content was intermixed with a wide range of examples from the instructor's personal experience - which hugely added value to the course. I thoroughly recommend it.

Did RYA Day Skipper here, boat was an old racing yacht and built for speed not comfort, e.g. monster mainsail was difficult to handle and hand hauling the anchor was a bit of a pain. The trainers Tim (shore based) and Glenys (practical) we're both excellent. Great to learn in the challenging environment of the Solent.

I have just completed the Yachtmaster Coastal Skipper exam following a week of preparation with Hamble School of Yachting. The experience was undoubtedly intense and rigorous, but also a lot of fun. The benefit of being based at Hamble, with such rapid access to all that The Solent has to offer should not be underestimated. The organisation and efficiency of HSY is to be admired from start to finish. Their web based booking and admin system works really well, regular reminders making sure you are aware of everything needed as the start of the course approaches. The provisioning of the yacht is excellent, and varied, with a pre-prepared frozen meal for each night of the trip, along with enough fresh produce, fruit etc to feed the hungriest of sailors. HSY thoroughly deserve their reputation as the best sailing school in the UK and I would recommend them to anyone looking for either classroom based or practical sailing courses.

Just did my Start Yachting course with Hamble, very professional, strict focus on safety and learning. James our instructor was patient, clear and always gave good feedback. Our yacht was well maintained, clean and no shortage of food. If you are not driving to the marina best to be organised with your transport in advance and have taxi or uber info to hand when your time is complete.

I have just finished a Day skipper fast track course at Hamble sailing school and wish to pass my thanks on for a professionally ran course. In particular I wish to highlight Tim Allen the theory course tutor. His training skills are exceptional he has a natural ability to help you understand new skills, encouraging you and explaining in a clear and understandable way whenever you feel a little confused. Tim is an excellent trainer and an asset to the Hamble school of sailing.
