This is a fantastic organisation that take young people to sea giving them fantastic opertunities that would otherwise be out of reach for them. I origanally took my Explorer Scouts sailing with them in 2015 and now volunteer with them myself. All of the Sea Staff are Volunteers who give their time freely, such a wonderful organisation.

My son went on a sailing trip with this set up in his group, covering two boats. His boat hung around the Solent for two days waiting to pick up a crew member before going to the Channel Islands, wasting precious sailing time. Although we requested him to practice and be assessed on RYA comp crew member during this trip, they later said this was not the case for his boat (the other boat did get this opportunity) and that it was done now. Subsequent conversations were very passive aggressive and ended up blaming my son for not standing up to skipper and organiser to request assessment (14 years old??!!). When pointing out they had offered to help him with it and it wasn’t something I had demanded in hindsight, they offered a solution “only costing another £200”. Was really hoping for equal opportunities and more support in growth to be honest, especially as the cost was considerable. One star as he did enjoy the experience.
