Employ racist tutors who blatantly treat white students better than students of colour. Never thought leaving education would make me so happy but I really am. Spoke with another college who informed me I’m one of at least 40 Students with the same story. Penalised for having health conditions meanwhile a white girl on my course was lying to get sent home and they had no issue supporting her. The work is like something you learn in secondary school, as an adult learner it was sad to see my tutors were more clueless than any student in there.

Absoloutely awful, The only remotely useful department is Wellbeing, I have been attending this college for 3 years and I am SO glad to say this will be my last! Regarding my experience, In the University building Art department I have had such a bipolar experience, some days were great and others had me begging myself to drop out, Unfortunately I care for my proceeding education and of ALL the collegs, I would of happily gone to Derby - reason being is that every tutor will treat you like you're still in PRIMARY SCHOOL, On an A Level course, CERTAIN Tutors & Staff will look down to you, If I had the willpower I would absoloutely have some names here. I wouldn't dare put examples here, Look at the other reviews - I apologise. NO Respect for students, NO Accessiblity to the University building & more, It takes a student's parents to get something done. Even then, the process will be slow & delayed, granted they have their own problems but for a place that advertises it's self as Safe, the behaviour that happens outside is horrid, I apologise to any potential staff of the area as this does not apply to you all!

I am outraged by the treatment my younger cousin received during her short time attending this college. She had put in years of work in Derby, in order to be eligible to study here. She was open and honest about her health conditions from the very beginning. Her tutor Joanne sent her a despicable voicemail informing her she needs to be “honest” about her intentions with the course. She had been sent home for an asthma attack, nobody made the effort to seek medical attention or even call her to see if she was okay. I would not accept this behaviour from my 8 year old son, let alone a grown woman with a career and a degree. The college should be ashamed of themselves having such lazy and disrespectful staff. I have now heard one of my cousins friends has had time off for health and there was no problem at all, so I can’t help but feel this incident was racially motivated. We have not heard back from this incompetent tutor and I’m sure she won’t make the effort to make sure my cousin is okay after such disrespect. The college also promised her a travel bursary, which she never received. I myself have attended numerous colleges in the midlands, I have never come across one that treats people so awfully, especially adult learners. Do not send your children here.

When I reflect on my time at Burton College, it was a terrible experience, particularly regarding the support for mental health. My time in sixth form was so disappointing because I was given false hope. One tutor told me that I could rely on her and confide in her about anything. However, when I revealed my personal mental health struggles, I ended up being kicked out. They refused to understand my situation and dismissed me when I was struggling. I remember an incident when I collapsed during sixth form. Instead of helping me, the head teacher Bev Rowley called me out, saying there were better candidates who deserved my spot. At that time, I was dealing with many challenges, like finding a job and managing an overwhelming college workload. Thankfully, I am in a better place now. Honestly, I never expected anyone else to go through such mistreatment until I looked at reviews and realized that this college hasn't changed at all. I hope no one else has to experience what I did.

I studied musical theatre at bsdc and came out with the highest grades possible. I am so proud to of achieved this grade as I was taught by the best musical theatre teachers I could ever have. ever single one of them have taught me everything that I needed to know to achieve my goal to go to university. the college has improved a lot within there facilities and courses. so I'm proud to of done my college qualification and now to continue my career at uni. Thank you.
