Attended here to see the prescribing pharmacist for a throat infection. Seen immediately and had antibiotics issued. First class service.

My wife and I arranged to have blood tests at the Ferryhill pharmacy. Unfortunately, it was an unsatisfactory experience, and probably one of the worst blood draws we have had. Before performing the blood draws, the pharmacist advised that due to a problem he had experienced with the tubes and another client, he had ordered and was about to trial the new batch of tubes on our blood draw. He failed to complete the full blood draw on my wife with the new tubes. He changed to a new batch of tubes and subsequently was also unable to complete the full blood draw on me. Two tubes were required for each of us. I would add that I found my blood draw to be quite painful, and still had swelling and discolouration two weeks later. I don’t know if there are recent new procedures in place within the medical profession, but he did not swab the extraction spots after prodding them with his finger. He also did not wear gloves. He seemed a little flustered and admitted a loss of confidence due to what he said was a failure of the two different batches of new tubes. In the event he held my wife’s second tube between his teeth while attempting the blood draw, then subsequently used a second tube he dropped on the floor for my blood draw. We felt a bit uncomfortable as we did not feel that the above was proper hygiene, but we are not medical people, so did not comment. Considering he said he had a number of repeat attempts to draw blood from a previous client both parties agreed to terminate the blood draw. He said he would contact his supplier regarding the tubes and it was agreed he would contact us to make a new arrangement when the replacements had been tested. I note that the pharmacy is still advertising blood testing but we have not been contacted 17 days later. The pharmacist did make repeated apologies for his failures, and was pleasant throughout, but enough time has elapsed with no contact from the pharmacy. We have subsequently lost confidence and will not return.

I asked the counter assistant if I could speak to the pharmacist about my prescription which had been labelled incorrectly. The counter assistant told me no I couldn't speak to the pharmacist and to take the medication "however I wanted". This is simply not acceptable.

As a tourist I came here to get a COVID test. They told me that they don't sell this type of test anymore. When I asked where could I get it or where could I get a PCR they told me that they don't know. Is difficult to explain but I felt like she was a bit rude and I find a bit weird that a pharmacist doesn't know where can I get tested. I felt like she was just saying no and trying to run away from us. Sometimes she was even saying no before we even asked.

Thoroughly professional and willing to go that 'extra mile'. A true Community Pharmacy and essential service. Locals should use instead of other faceless chains who provide the bare minimum service.

  3. L “Vih’s Dinosaur” ★★★★★

Friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful staff. Service was excellent. My prescription was made up quickly. The prescription collection service is excellent. They even send a text to let me know when everything is ready. A wonderful local community pharmacy. Over the counter remedies are so much cheaper here than in the big chains! Well done to Ross and his team for making the pharmacy a real asset to the local community.
