I was anxious at first, as most people are, about trying something totally new but I settled in quickly at SBG, thanks to the friendly atmosphere that has been cultivated there. The beginners course is ideal for getting people acquainted with the main positions in bjj and also a space to learn how to be a good training partner for others. There's a wide range of experience levels at the gym, making it a suitable place for people who just want a new hobby to people who want to sharpen their skills for competition alike. There is a wide range of classes available, including gi, no gi, wrestling, leg lock and competition specific classes. I can't reccomend the place enough!

I wanted to start something new while in Aberdeen, so I tried out their 8-week beginner's course. The best decision I made in a long time. Learned a lot and fell in love with the sport. I then attended their regular classes for about 4 months, before leaving Aberdeen. They have both gi and no-gi classes (and wrestling on Sundays) and they offer them every single day of the week (sometimes two a day: morning and evening), so it's very convenient to attend regardless of your schedule. Instruction is top-notch. The main instructor, Ross, is incredibly knowledgeable, but also very kind and generous with his time. The atmosphere is very good, which really makes it a fun and welcoming environment. Couldn't recommend it more!

Awesome place to train. Very friendly group of people who are always willing to help a newbie out. Been training here for a few months now after coming through one of the beginners blocks. Great idea and makes the transition to the regular classes so much easier. Ross is an excellent coach. He makes training really enjoyable and always ensures that everyone feels welcome.

Couldn't recommend the place enough. Great atmosphere, a range of experiance on the mats and a variety of grappling classes available everyday, with dedicated high level coaching. If you're thinking of giving the sport a go, look out for their beginners blocks. You'll learn some valuable skills and gain an understanding of some core positions and mechanics in jiu jitsu giving you a good foundation to continue your training from.

Fantastic club with great coaching and training partners. For anyone looking to start BJJ I can’t recommend the beginners block enough. It gives you a great introduction to BJJ with the option of joining the club at the end. When you join there are classes every day which makes it great for fitting around your schedule. I highly recommend it for beginners and those experienced in BJJ.
