   I’ve been a customer of AW Hunt for more than 20 years, however for the last couple of years, have seen the service received from Bergen associates deteriorate, staff constantly leaving to the point this last financial year, had to constantly chase my accounts and the contact person changed numerous times to point didn’t understand who was talking to, had my payments queried when paid on numerous occasions, worst service ever that would expect from a accountants. It’s obvious to me they simply cannot keep staff, If could have gave zero stars would have. Good bye Bergen Associates is all I can say.

   They took over a local accountancy company and the service went from excellent to abysmal in a short time. They are extremely poor communicators and have no grasp of their customer relationship and how it stands. They simply send out invoices for work they have not done. Steer clear.

   Had an interview for the Hastings office and the Director was unprofessional, rude and unpleasant. Can safely say I withdrew my application straight after my zoom interview. If that's how he treats the people he is interviewing I dred to think what he's like to work for.

   AVOID Aberdeen's office: overcharged me, tricked me into paying for something which looks like a made up service, reported my income incorrectly in a very lazy way, which also resulted in me paying more tax that I should have! In total I paid £500 for their "service", i.e. tax self assessment for one year! (extra 250 was added in the process), prepared for them almost all the calculations myself in excel file and still it was done lazy and incorrectly which costed me a lot of money (£500 + overpaid tax on expenses they didn't care to include). I did accept their calculations and forms before they were sent but the reason I chose them was that I had no clue how to do this myself and didn't know the rules. Now that I have a full knowledge I am saying - they behave like scammers. Details: From the start I informed them that the centre of my life (my work and accommodation) is in the UK and that I have additional income from Poland from Airbnb / short term renting. I informed them that there is a signed treaty between our countries to avoid double taxation. I also sent them files with all data, i.e. all my income, allowable expenses, paid tax in Poland on my Polish income, all in tables colour-coded. When they sent me the first final version to accept, they told me that I will have to pay 1200+ tax to HMRC based on their calcs. I pointed out that they missed out the tax that I have already paid in Poland. So they recalculated things and came back to me saying : "The income tax payable of £1,200 has changed to tax refund of £510 but is subject to acceptance of FTC by HMRC". However, they also said that this required extra application and they dont know if HMRC is going to accept it etc. so I will have to pay another 250 to them for this extra service, if HMRC accepts their application....So I did as I was in the middle of everything and already paid initial deposit. So everything (£500) that HMRC returned to me was eaten by Bergen Associates. I was asked by HMRC to do another tax self assessment year and this time I decided to do it myself. While doing it I noticed this: £250 that Bergen charged me extra for the Foreign Tax Credit Relief "application" is really just for TICKING A BOX in the form (Yes I want to claim the tax relief) and entering the tax paid. There are no extra steps, nor anything to wait for. I did it myself! Not only they dared to charge me so much money for no extra work at all, but also they knew from the beginning everything about my taxes and income in Poland and when I was asking for the total price they said only 250. Then they messed up calcs, I pointed that out, they fixed it and had a cheek to charge me extra for what it seems a made up service cost! This is not everything: they reported my rent income incorrectly in the foreign section (lazy choice) while this type of business goes clearly under Furnished Home Letting scheme and is reported in the UK's section. On top of that the lazy accountant didn't include mortgage interest rates into the allowable expenses, he didn't ask, didn't suggest anything, so I am guessing he has never even thought about it. This is a huge cost and if they did include those costs I would be returned much more tax! So, to summarise: they misled me, tricked (or lied to) into paying extra £250 for the made up service, made many mistakes which I found out and at the end messed up my self assessment causing more expenses on my side (I could get more tax back if they weren't so lazy). So the question is: what are they charging people for??? SCAM

   I have just had my annual accounts and corporation tax return prepared by Ola Soyombo at Bergen Associates. The work was undertaken within an extremely tight deadline and was my first time dealing with the company. Absolutely first class service with great on-going communication.
