My wife and I, have are frequent visitors to St Mary's Tea Room and have always found the food to be excellent. The bonus for me was, the lovely gluten free pies and quiche. This week though I was really disappointed to be told that there were none & that the Tea Room no longer offers the option. I find this rather annoying, as vegan options are available. In most cases Vegan is just a lifestyle choice, whereas gluten intolerance & Celiac Disease are an illness. There even seemed to be some dispute between the people who work at the Tea Room, about this.

Great little place. Medium expense - it's not low cost. Home made pies, well rated. Inside and outside seating, if the weather allows the latter. Good to support an excellent commercial venture that helps the immediate environment.

Never been here before and came across it today by chance. There were eight of us, 6 adults and 2 children, 1 of whom has severe nut and dairy allergies. There was something here for all of us and he could even have a pie as it was vegan! Made us all happy he could have something nice. The sausage plait was the best I have ever eaten and the mint aero cheesecake was homemade and delicious. We’re so pleased we came here and were proud to tell our friends we lived nearby this little gem. The whole staff were fantastic and even helped bring our order outside to the garden. We will definitely come back and cannot recommend this tea room highly enough.

Situated within the grounds of Portchester Castle, which is well worth visiting. This is a lovely tea room operated by volunteers who are fabulous. There is an excellent selection of sandwiches, hot & cold drinks, meals & cakes.. I had a cracking bacon sandwich , followed by a cream tea. Can't be beaten!!

What a fabulous little tea room! Run by the most delightful, friendly and helpful staff. All the cakes are home made and very tasty they looked too. The prices are not what you'd expect from tea rooms these days...it was amazing value, so cheap. Wish we'd ditched the picnic and eaten from here instead! Sorry we bought up all your scones yesterday, we've just had them for tea and they were some of the best I've eaten! As we were leaving, chef was busy making more. I'd highly recommend you pay a visit.

The food was good when we got it but the service by a young female member of staff was appalling. I had to wait to be served whilst she and other staff chatted. When she finally came to the till she said nothing . I ordered our food which she got wrong and brought tea in a mug covered in lipstick. When we asked for a new one she made no apology but practically threw the next mug of tea at us. She then stood glaring at us and spoke to other staff about us in our hearing. One of our orders was missed so we had to ask again for it . Even then no verbal engagement. These may be volunteers but customer service is a basic need, surely. Hardly a Christian attitude. If you don't like serving customers don't volunteer in a public cafe .

Very nice little tea room, not much food left when we got there but never mind. Very disappointed with my Toasted Teacake as it was as black as the ace of spades, Cremated! I couldn't and wouldn't eat it like that, so I took it back and asked for another, to be fair this time the young man kept looking at the toaster to make sure the teacake didn't go black. However it was black again but Not as bad. And there was another Lady there who also had a Burnt Teacake as she showed me the back of it, but didn't bother to take hers back. I think They Need to Invest in a New Toaster, or toast it under a Grill would be more fitting. As the saying goes, If you don't tell them they can't put it right!
