Our experience at Freshfields has only been positive. Our daughter (9 yrs) has started lessons since August and absolutely loves it. The teacher, Jo, is patience and reassuring whilst the girls helping, especially Alexa, have done a wonderful job of making my daughter comfortable on and around the horses. Tim has also helped us out when we’ve needed to move lesson timings around at late notice. Daughter also completed Pony Club this half term, which she absolutely loved.

Having seen some negative reviews on here, We feel compelled to share our experience. Aa family we have been going to Freshfields for 3 years and have received nothing but a fabulous service from Sandra and Tim. Well organised and a very structured business which in all honesty needs to be in the world of horse welfare, care and the organisation to teach others! Every one of the horses and ponies are so well loved and cared for by the whole team and the horses are happy and that shows. We would highly recommend Freshfields. It’s a place where all ages and experience can thrive learning to ride , and we are grateful for the positive impact it has had on our learning experience and continue to grow there. Thank you, Sandra and Tim and the team for the dedication, and for creating such a wonderful resource in the community! Finally… Congratulations on receiving the 5 stars, you guys work bloody hard. Hats off

Tim (owner) is quite rude and unprofessional. Seems to only do it for the money, not much passion for horses. Heard some horrible rumours about him which are not mine to discuss. Horses are lovely but sometimes overworked. Good lessons. Overall not a bad place with amazing potential, just a shame about the owner.

AVOID. We had a terrible experience at this riding centre. It was our first time attending, and we were met by an exceptionally rude man called Tim, who’s first words to us were “do not come in this way, it’s health and safety”, after we came in through the front of the school for my daughters lesson. No hello, welcome to Freshfields, how are you? No friendly direction at all. When I said it might be helpful to have some signs to direct new customers where to go, he said extremely sarcastically, “well I’ll print you a sign now”, to which I said, “I think that would be helpful, if you’re concerned about where customers might walk”. He was very direct, cold, unwelcoming and very unhelpful. It got worse as he proceeded to remind us of the dangers of Horseriding while he shoved a waiver in our faces, and said that any injuries are at our risk, then without further or do, shoved the chip and pin machine into our hands for payment. He is clearly more interested in this transaction than the enjoyment and welfare of his customers. The lesson itself saw my daughter placed with a girl twice her age, and the therefore she struggled to keep up with her, despite us telling Tim about her riding experience, he did not advise us of which lesson would be most suitable for her. Then after the lesson, the first thing he said in a direct and rude way was “that wasn’t the right class for her!”. For someone ostensibly concerned with health and safety, and as the owner of the business, it’s incumbent on him to provide this advice and direction to customers, not belittle them and make us feel stupid for paying for a class we assume is suitable. This was the last straw and I told him that our experience has been very unpleasant, to which he sarcastically said in my face, “well must be why my customers keep coming back then”, as he barged past me. We summarily left, and will never return. We just hope that this review will inform future would-be customers of his appalling attitude so you can avoid having to experience it. We will be raising a concern with the BHS on Monday. It was completely awful.

Avoid. My daughter did a lesson there. Booked in for another, when we got there the owner said we hadn’t booked (even though we did) and sent us away. Totally messed us around. So I sent her somewhere else as they clearly didn’t value our custom. Few months later, I tried to book a lesson. Booked it, then he cancelled last minute saying he’d double booked it. He told me he’d get in touch with another slot… and I’m still waiting. Poor customer service if you can even call it that.
