A neighbour of mine give me the garages number I've never used him before. I rang him on Monday and explained that a rear coil spring had snapped and that I need the car back on road as soon as possible as my partner is very heavily pregnant he said he could do it Thursday so I drop car off Monday night with him he phoned me back next day to say it was all done and ready to be pick up I can't fault the service one bit and I will definitely be using him again if I need anymore work done on my car

I went there today and a £10 job turns into a £140 job, 10/11/2020, I would not recommend as he is the most un professional mechanic I have ever met. I booked an appointment for 2:30pm. I then drive in and he tells me to park my car to the side and he will come help me in a second, I get out my can and he drives my car into the garage and tells me to go to the office and he will see me in there so I go and wait, he comes in and looks abit stressed out so I ask him how he is to be nice and try cheer him up abit and I say "before you start could you put my car through you diagnostic reader" he then say "well yes I could" pauses for a moment and says "it will cost you £25" so I said "when i have took my car to other garages in the past they didn't charge me anything as thats the first thing they do to check what is actually wrong with the car" he says "you know what then ill do it for free" so I said "I do appreciate that, is it okay if i can watch you do it as i am interested to know how its done so i can learn and next time i will be able to do it on my own" he says "do you have a licence to be stood in the service area?" I reply "no I do not" he goes "well then" with an attitude and a smug face, I said " can I watch out side through the open shutters?" he said "that was fine" so I did. As he gets to my car he starts lifting it up and I thought why isn't he not putting it through a diagnostic reader? he must be looking at all the car before, then he will do a diagnostic on it, which was i wrong! He starts taking my old starter motor off and puts the new one on, at this time it is 3:00pm and then after he has put the new motor on he puts the car back to ground level and then tries starting the car and nothing happens, he looks shocked! I say "how come it isn't starting?" he says "I don't know" while scratching his head.He goes, brings out a positive jump lead and attaches it to my battery and then to my engine. It basically improvises as a battery earth wire to start the car up, so when he says my old starter motor wasn't even broken and it was a simple earth wire I was really upset because the cost of a earth wire is £10 turned into a £140 job. he then puts on a second hand earth wire which he got from one of his old broke down cars and attaches it to mine. He said "this will be a temporary wire until you can buy a new one" So I say "if my starter motor isn't broken cant you put my old one back on and fit an earth wire instead of paying £96 on a starter motor I don't need?" he gets really defensive and says "he wouldn't be able to take it off because he has already fitted it so no I cant put the old one back on" I said "well if my starter motor isn't broken can I keep it so I can sell it and get some money back what I have lost out on" he says "well you could, you will have to pay me £45 admission fee because the company I got your new starter motor off have to have your old one sent back to them and I have to pay them £45' so I said "why would I have to pay for the starter motor which is already mine?why would you have to spend £45 for them to take it back" he said "thats how it goes" he then fits the improvised earth wire and turns the car on and it runs, he says "was this red airbag light on before" I say "no why" I say "so does that mean if i crash my airbag wont go off" and he says "I don't know" I tell him that I am upset about having to pay £140 for a job, that only needed a wire that cost "£10" and he get out my car and starts shouting and i feel the spit out of his mouth coming on to my face so I ask him "can you please stop shouting at me" he storms into the office and I follow him and I pay him I say to him "this has really upset me" he says "you are really pissing me off and you don't want to get me mad" i ask for my car key back and leave. If you want to get scammed and threatened/coned like I have then go, if you want an honest mechanic who knows what they are doing Steve Ellis Motors is DEFINITELY not the garage to go to. Thank you for reading this I hope this helps not make the mistake I made coming here.
