Arnold Laver is the first place i go to for timber. They usually have what i want in stock. They have a good range of flooring in the showroom and the staff are very knowledgeable and helpful. The service was quick and there is plenty of customer parking.

Shame that I’m having to write this as I received great service about a year and half back when ordering materials to convert me loft. That’s what encouraged me to order with them again, and why I’d recommended them to others since. I notice a habit of any one star reviews being responded to very defensively to try and pin the blame on the customer, so am breaking this down to ensure it is as clear as possible and to encourage some actual ownership on the part of the company. Friday 7th March: Call the Hull depot to confirm delivery dates can be requested when ordering online. Am told this is fine. Saturday 8th March: Make order online requesting delivery on Thursday 13th March. Monday 10th March: Receive email confirmation of order and request of delivery date is also confirmed. Advise branch will be in touch. Thursday 13th March ~1030: Call number provided in confirmation email as not heard from branch and querying estimated delivery time. They contact Hull Branch - state it’s not on the wagon as yet but is due for delivery today. Thursday 13th March ~1400: Call Hull Branch directly. Am placed on hold a number of times whilst this is chased up. Am advised that delivery is down for tomorrow (Friday 14th March) - no explanation why other than, “Our guy who takes the web orders just put it down for the 14th”. Unable to explain why they have done this despite request made. Further advise that the person I’d spoken to earlier in the day “Doesn’t work at this branch” - guess what lads, he doesn’t work for me either, but they’re still part of your company so the “Wasn’t us…”, attitude doesn’t really sit too well. Ask what can be done to offer compensation due to time wasted (having had to take a day off work). Am told they would ask management, but shocker…..”He’s not here at the minute”. Thursday 13th March ~ 1550: Called again and manager still not there - apparently he’s “…with a customer”, and they can’t contact him on his mobile when he’s with a customer. Lots of umming and ahhing about if he’ll even be back in today, but assistant manager ‘might’ be back this afternoon. (Just an FYI, when someone corrects you on their name, maybe listen and not continue to call them the incorrect name). Said I’d call again at 1630. Thursday 13th March ~1630: Managers still not back and looking likely be tomorrow. Again; lack of accountability trying to claim they didn’t see the actual order, saying it came from Bradford, asking if I’d ordered from that branch and so on. Order cancelled. When calling at ~1400, the promise was made of delivery first thing (0800) on Friday 14th March, which I had to request. Might just be me, but shouldn’t Customer Service see the error and work to ensure the delivery was sent out and received on the date promised and confirmed. At the very least, the offer should have been made to get it to me first thing tomorrow instead of me asking, but apparently we don’t take accountability for our mistakes. Day wasted - behind on project as wouldn’t even be able to get first cuts done tomorrow with me being back at work and the state of the weather, even if I could afford to take another day off. Happier cancelling my order and pushing project back rather than giving my business to a company that doesn’t value someone’s custom - maybe if I was as fancy as the customer the manager was with which meant they couldn’t be disturbed then I would’ve been treat with a bit more respect. Number was taken and was told manager (Cory?) would be asked to call me tomorrow (Friday 14th March). Let’s see if that happens. Update: 14/03/25 - Manager actually called me. Stated that any customer should always receive “…the same high standard of service”, be they spending “…£10,000 or £1”. Was asked what he could do to restore my faith in the company. Apparently the manager can’t make any decisions like that but he assured me I’ll receive a call on Wednesday 19th March. Will see what happens then, Corey. Update: 19/03/25 - No real explanation other than obvious miscommunication on their end. No compensation. Down £300+

Absolutely waste of time, money and resources. So where to start... 1) placing order. Called them to get quote on stock item. Was waiting 3 days for call back. 2) picking up order... Waiting for 45min as no one knows where it was... 3) product - should be unsorted softwood - give precise what I need it for. I get wood literally covered in resin... 4) after sales customer service - non existent. Still waiting for someone to cameback with any solution... 3 weeks now. Avoid them at any cost. Will not use them even if they will be last timber supplier in 100 mile radius.

The best selection and prices for wood in Hull, very helpful staff and open to trade and public. They will do cuts, but depends how busy they are.
