PLEASE AVOID AT ALL COSTS, ESPECIALLY AROUND CHRISTMAS! Absolutely terrible. A massive function was held in the lobby all night and no one thought to inform the other guests when they booked that you weren't getting any sleep that night. Music so loud you could feel the vibrations, even through earplugs. Went to ask to swap rooms and complain they said there's nothing they can do. Next day my room wasn't cleaned despite the sign outside saying it was. When I went to ask reception again why it wasn't she said the cleaner saw my take it off and go into my room around 12pm... I was at work none stop from 9 to 5pm! I said she's either lying or someone's broken into my room and she refused to acknowledge either option. I said I need a refund as they was the worst experience I've had and they gave me a fake email address. Called back after for the correct one but its been over a month and no ones responded.

Rooms are good but as for turning down homeless a couple year back and now turning someone else down prior to booking 2 months ago. Stop fulfilling people from other countries and focus on your own uk community residents. THIS IS OUR COUNTRY!! Not theirs

Nice, traditional hotel but showing signs of tiredness through its wonderful Victorian grandeur. The wonderful hallway is overpowered by some awful 70's style light structures which if replaced with period crystal or a sculptural feature would display the area at it's best. The rooms were comfortable and adequate. The staff were all polite, attentive and delightful. It was particularly refreshing to see the breakfast room staffed by seniors who gently glided about their duties ensuring everyone was catered for with total professionalism and unhurried fuss.

Superb location, literally next door to the train station. Check in was a smooth process. The room was a little hard to find, but the staff helped us. The bar area was nice and the drinks were reasonably priced. Room itself was small but perfectly acceptable, it was clean and comfortable. Would definitely return.

My stay was enjoyable, I appreciated the that I could adjust my heating in the room. Nice to see they have tea and coffee in the rooms. The room was a good size just for me and I was given a quiet section as I had asked. Staff were accommodating. The place felt a little dated but over all a good experience.

At first glance and from a distance this is a magnificent hotel, beautiful architecture and a historic building. However that's as far as it goes. When you look closer there are many issues, some small, that contribute to make the hotel very disappointing. The room I stayed in is very tired, lots of small issues like air-conditioning not working, window not completely shutting, 2 hairdryers broken. Smelly, old towels. The breakfast was very disappointing. The English breakfast buffet was not good at all. The layout was poor, everything down to small details like plates hidden at the back of under a heat lamp do that you almost burnt your hand reaching for a plate. The staff were friendly but that couldn't save my experience.

Let's start with the positives. Great central location. It's very clean. The staff were friendly and helpful. The food was good value for money but sadly the hotel deco is very tired. The mattress was hard, the overflow leaked and the window was kept open with a stick. I'd definitely stay again once the hotel has had a refurb and the mattresses are changed.
