Both my children have been attending Purbrook nursery and pre school since October. My youngest is in the baby room. He settled very quickly and has an amazing bond with his key person as well as all the other practitioners in the room. They all know him incredibly well, they are able to meet all his wants and needs and his development has come on leaps and bounds since starting the setting. They provide engaging and stimulating activities for the babies as well as linking them to the children's current interest. My son particularly loved Winnie the pooh week. He also enjoyes the garden and going out for walks in the local community along with visits to the library and recently joined a song and dance group that came into the setting. My eldest child is in the pre school room. He also has an amazing relationship with his key person and all the other practitioners in the room. He also settled very quickly and I put this down to the staff getting to know the children and building strong bonds with them. He has also developed many skills and this is due to the activities and engagement that the nursery provide. He enjoys participating in the groups that the nursery provide, cooking club, gardening club, nature club as well as going into the community and the library. I love that the nursery have an app where they post pictures of what my children have been doing whilst there and updates of their progress on the EYFS so I can see how they are getting on. I can also add posts to this so we always have another link to home and nursery.

A horrendous nursery, very appalling in fact. Safeguarding children is not a concern for them. My son was attending this nursery until he suffered a serious injury under their care. There was no finger guard attached to the main door of the baby room and my son’s thumb got caught on the hinges of the door as the door was closing during pick up time. When i arrived to pick him up, he was screaming in pain and when they showed me the injury at first instance i thought the thumb could be broken and needed hospital treatment. They did not take it seriously, they thought this type of injury was normal and was more concerned with taking pictures of his thumb to cover their backs and the carer kept saying its an accident and its not serious, which delayed me rushing to get him to the hospital to assess the injury. After a few hours at QA hospital and an x ray; the doctors confirmed it was broken and needed to be referred to a plastic and reconstructive specialist to see if surgery was required. After assessment from the specialist, surgery was required. Whilst at hospital, the manager of the nursery left a voicemail message to say it was an accident and no action is needed, very confident they were not in the wrong, until i called her to confirm it was broken her tone changed to hesitation and was very eager to meet me. During my meeting, she admitted there was no finger guard in place, they continued to provide care to very young children, knowing the potential risks. Whats worse is that at the time of the incident, there were 4 carers present and 6 children, legally a carer can look after up to 4 children each, so they did not do a very good job of protecting my son from harm. After this incident, i left disappointed, i decided to take my son out of this nursery immediately as i believe health and safety to a child is not a priority for them.

My twins(15 months )are doing their settling in session at this Nursey. I’m so pleased with how caring the staff are Kate & Sarah have gone above and beyond to help my babies settle in they are king caring and patient with all the babies. The Nursey has lots going on to keep their little minds active! Always looks clean and inviting and very well managed. I’m so happy with my experience so far.

Both my children attended Purbrook Day Nursery (previously known as Rocking Horse). I came to them after having issues with a local nursery and it was the best decision I've ever made. They were welcoming, attentive and organised. My children loved it there! Best nursery in Waterlooville.
