An absolute treat to eat here! We've been a few times and have always left feeling satisfied and content. We just had our anniversary dinner here and we were treated so warmly and kindly by each staff member. Great value for money food that can't be topped. Highly recommend!

This was our second visit to this pub and we all enjoyed the experience very much. The food was first class with a good variety of pub classics. The pies are exceptional but then so is everything else. As a walking group we arrived wet and cold and the welcome was lovely. The staff worked hard to ensure we had a good experience. For me HSB and London Pride work really well and set me up for a first class lunch. Well worth a visit and fairly priced for good sized portions.

Not quite the banger I paid for! Visited based on their strong reputation in Southwick. The pub looked inviting and was laid out well, with plenty of space between tables. It was very quiet when we arrived—just four tables occupied. Gluten-free choices were limited. I went for the sausage and mash. Food was hot and the plate included mustard mash, cabbage, onions, carrots, and gravy. I asked for mustard, which turned out to be the only thing that gave the dish any taste. The sausages were described as “butchers sausages” but were pale, bland, and forgettable. In fact, the sausages were so bland I thought my taste buds had gone on strike! No one wants a bland, limp sausage—especially at £17.50, when you’re hoping for something hearty and full of flavour. Partner had the steak and Guinness pie, which was well seasoned and tasted as expected. £19.75. Also ordered a pot of tea—£3 for a pot that only held one cup. It was really strong and I poured it out straight away. For that price, they could at least offer a top-up of hot water or provide a larger pot. No gluten-free desserts were available. We also missed the specials board, which wasn’t pointed out to us. The pub was clean and staff were polite and attentive during service.

We came as a group of seven and left both full and impressed. For under £230 in total, the value was exceptional—especially considering the portion sizes, which were nothing short of generous. The food overall was fantastic. The burgers were hearty and well-seasoned, though one of our group did comment that the pepper seasoning was a bit overwhelming. That said, plates were cleared with enthusiasm. The ribs, however, were a slight letdown. Despite ordering the "double spicy" version, they turned out to be more sweet than spicy, and the meat was noticeably dry. A shame, really, as the portion size was impressive and the presentation spot on. Hopefully just an off day in the kitchen. Fries were crisp, hot, and plentiful, and the coleslaw was creamy, colourful, and fresh—exactly what you’d hope for on a pub plate. Dessert was the highlight of the meal—absolutely delicious and worth saving room for. The pub itself is charming and well-kept, with a warm, relaxed atmosphere, classic decor, and friendly service throughout. A lovely country setting that makes you want to linger just a bit longer. Overall, despite a few small hiccups, everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal. We'd absolutely return—and perhaps give the ribs another chance.

Visited on a Monday lunchtime alone and stayed for dinner and dessert. Place is much smarter than I remember on previous visit many years ago. Clean and tidy ( including toilets ) with excellent service, attentive well presented staff but not imposing. Food itself was great...''Pie of the day' with delightful cheesecake to follow ( only crticism was raspberry glazed top added nice colour but little taste ) Whatever keen to make positive recommendation. Food above average standard and nicely plated ( see pics). Prices acceptable. Would happily dine again x

Unfortunately the pies and Vegan Wellington were off, but a nice meal all the same. Staff very welcoming and helpful. Took note of our dietary requirements and warned where a dish we had selected would not suit. Very helpful after our "accident" with our latte.
