I found Lanes Counselling were prompt with their response to my initial enquiry and put consideration and thought into matching me with my counsellor. The receptionist was very helpful and informative of the counsellor I’d be seeing and the process. The counsellor I am still seeing, Tracy has been incredibly helpful and supportive through a challenging period in my life and has assisted me in making huge progress in moving forward.

I highly recommend Lisa. She’s worked with my child the last few months and his confidence and self esteem has improved rapidly. He’s also managing his anxiety much better. Lisa is friendly, approachable and professional. The reception staff are also friendly and warm.

When you are in crisis, you look to private therapy for a speedy and professional service to help soothe the challenges you are facing with your mental health. The Lanes Counselling administration team have been so poor in their service offering to me, that they have had a significant detrimental impact on my mental health rather than helping me get better. If you are looking for therapy in the area, I suggest you look for a therapist who has an online booking portal, so you can completely remove the need to deal with the receptionist at Lanes Counselling and directly book with a counsellor. My case had some complexity as I had the police involved and I needed Lanes to contact my partner to book the appointment. Lanes took 12 days in booking an appointment for me, only to then cancel it due to their poor communication. I was repeatedly given vague and non-sensical updates by the receptionist when I called. This included being promised an update by the receptionist on a day that the receptionist didn’t work, twice. I approached another counsellor, who managed the same complexity and booked an appointment with us within 12 HOURS rather than 12 days. The moderate complexity of my case (the complexity was to speak to a police officer, speak to my partner then book the appointment with the therapist) is no excuse for poor service. When people have anxiety they need certainty and reassurance. I had to ring for updates and to push things forward. I got vague updates that made no logical sense. The receptionist moved things forward at a glacial pace. The service I got is inadequate and unacceptable. Go elsewhere for a prompt and professional service. My mental health deteriorated in that 12 day wait for an appointment, resulting in an ambulance being sent to my house. If I’d had a prompt service from Lanes, I know my mental health wouldn’t have suffered so much. I emailed asking for the owner of Lanes Counselling to contact me, as this is what BACP - their governing body suggest to do before making a complaint to them. I also asked for a copy of the complaints policy, as BACP ask to do this. Instead I got an email back from the receptionist. It's disappointing that professional therapists at Lanes are let down by their front-line team who don’t put helping service users as a priority. Their inability to organise themselves compounded my mental health crisis. I was going to spend a lot of money on intensive therapy sessions, both as a couple and as individuals, Lanes Counselling have lost out financially. I hope this review puts others off using the service for the benefit of their own mental health. TDLR: Don’t bother, find a practice elsewhere.
