Having heard good things we booked a table for the first time this weekend. Having a son with a lactose intolerance I checked the menu to find there was no allergens advice (this is the norm in 2025). So I phoned up to check they had a few options he could eat. On phoning the girls I spoke to was trying to be helpful and asked the chef for advice. I was then told that there no options available because the chef was not prepared to take the risk! At which I explained it’s not an allergy just an intolerance so there was no problem with cross contamination etc. I was still told the chef wasn’t prepared to take the risk so there were no options available for him. So unfortunately we were forced to cancel the booking. I wonder if the owners are aware they are losing bookings due to the lack of education from their chef and lack of allergies advice on the menu which is standard in 2025 when so many people have food allergies and intolerances. All I can say is if you have an intolerances-don’t even bother! Go elsewhere where they are clear about their ingredients! Very disappointing experience.

Lovely evening and food and service was good . Just a bit annoying to be put on a lovely table in the by a fire then and whilst looking at the menu and asked to move as they’d put us on the wrong table. The waitress moved us to a back area that had nobody in it and felt a bit soulless. Food and service otherwise was good .

Last nights meal was lovely and the talk of the night. It topped it off by a surprise birthday cake for my boyfriend, who's birthday we were celebrating. He kept looking at me and questioning me, which I had nothing to do with it, as I was only joking when I said "you got to make space for cake"! He then eventually found out it was my mum who told one of the staff members that we were at The Swan and it was he's birthday. It's amazing what you can do considering there in Portugal! My boyfriend said it was so thoughtful!

My wife and I are locals and regular visitors to The Swan at Whiston, and it never disappoints. The food is consistently excellent — proper home-cooked dishes, generous portions, crisp chips, and plenty of fresh vegetables. The service is friendly and efficient, and the atmosphere is always welcoming. It’s great value for money, and they’re always happy to accommodate. Always busy, always enjoyable — what more could you ask for?

Lovely rural pub with friendly staff and great food. Our lamb burger and chicken burger were piping hot, along with the nicely browned onion rings and chips! We had a few changes and all were handled professionally and without a problem. Only 'down' side was they didn't have any dark ales, but found something else to have. Quite a few food options to choose from. We'll be back!

Very very nice place service was good and meal, I had stacked burger missus had chicken from the special board, Well presented and tasty, a little too much American cheese for me but it was simple enough to remove it, a cider drinkers paradise + lots of choice in ales. Well done ladies we shall return soon

Pleasant country pub. Visited for lunch. Not packed but enough customers to make a friendly atmosphere. Good choice of food. Lunchtime menu, main menu and specials board. All food freshly cooked, and a good selection of home cooked delights. A good selection of beers, ciders and soft drinks. Well worth a visit and good value for money. It's getting much busier now, so I think booking a table may be a good idea. Another visit. November 2022, and busier than we've ever seen it at lunchtime. Food still excellent quality and prices appear to have been held, very helpful given the economic situation. Still an excellent variety of draft beers and ciders, again at reasonable prices.

We stayed overnight in our motorhome in the carpark. Lovely staff, amazing amazing food. Full complements to the chef. A great find and we will be back if we are passing again. Tables were spaced and clean, carpark large and flat and we had a quiet night.
