My friend Emily had a tattoo done for her 21st Birthday last Tuesday at @devillehull She had a tattoo done by an apprentice Our understanding of an apprentice tattooist is that they are supervised, guided and coached through the process, which is why Emily signed the consent form as all hygiene steps were followed and the tattooist was confident. Her manager/mentor must have been confident in her abilities too, as she barely supervised the tattooing and spent most of her time on her iPad. Unfortunately, within 4 days, Emilyβs tattoo was bubbly and βwetβ. After an A&E trip, where they were horrified at the state of it, sheβs ended up on strong antibiotics and being signed off work as the infection level is a risk in the F&B industry. The doctor expressly told her that the root cause is that the tattoo needle has gone too deep, through too many layers of dermis, which has caused this infection. So, even though the tattooist wore gloves and used sterile needles, which is what we would all look for from a good tattooist, due to a lack of supervision, an infection has still occurred. Emily has tried to seek compensation for this from the negligent boss, @beccehtattoo, which has been refused, so we just want to make people aware of the risk as we are not confident that any steps will be taken by @devillehull to ensure this doesnβt happen ever again so suggest avoiding this business until they prove they have revised their practices! Can we also add the apprentice was told by her trainer Becca that the correct aftercare to give to the client was to keep it wrapped constantly for a week and to keep moisturising it Aftercare is such an important part to the tattoo healing as well and can also reduce risk of infection Cling film should be removed as soon as your home. Understandably artists will argue over different aftercare routines but keeping cling film on for a week will restrict air from healing the tattoo and keep the tattoo moist, which means plasmic ink is sat left on your tattoo which leaves ur tattoo exposed to tons of bacteria. Clingfilm can also trap heat in and cause it to sweat and overheat which isnβt healthy for a fresh tattoo and you donβt want sweat chilling on a fresh tattoo. The purpose of keeping tattoos wrapped is to protect the fresh tattoo from dirt and germs when it is raw (ie straight after being done) Fresh air = key. When she contacted the artist about the irritation she had after a few days of getting it she was told it was normal and plasma build up. Do these pictures look normal to you?? Becca clearly neglected one of her apprentices clients- em shouldnβt have been sent straight to a doctor or even back to the studio for an artist to look at it to ensure her own well-being and for her to feel peace of mind
