“This is a tiny cafe above a bookshop. Both are queer spaces, full of flags, acceptance and super friendly staff. I can highly recommend the bi passionfruit cake. The cafe is a meeting place for young people who identify as LGBTQ+, so if you have an issue with them you're not at all welcome here. This cafe is absolutely perfect for students but, to reiterate, it is very small!”
“Olives were nice, but would have preffered pitted olives personally, and could have been a bigger portion. Garlic bread with caramelised onion starter was nice and enough for 2 people to share a small portion each. Salad was lovely with lots of sauce and added goats cheese. Malbec was nice. Wagyu pizza was very good and the honey sauce was very nice. Vincent our waiter was new and he got our orders right and was very polite. Vegan chocolate cake was nice but probably would have been better had it been warm and maybe with some vegan ice cream. Overall lovely meal.”
“Stopped by for lunch and a pint and we were not disappointed! Plenty of options on tap, lovely building, service was great and to top it off the pizzas and loaded fries were incredible! 10\10 would recommend!”
“Brilliant, went for food tonight and nothing too much trouble to adapt the menu to my gluten free and lactose intolerant diet. Great welcome, good food and fabulous price, no frills, plenty of taste, freshly cooked and piping hot. Good Luck with this new venture you are providing great food at a great price.”
“Great location with the park and ride just up the road. Lovely clean room. Good parking and the breakfast was really good. The pub opposite is nothing to do with the premier inn, so no meal deals available, but it was lovely and the food was great.”
“We did Houdini's escape room, the RMS Titanic one and loved it! James was an excellent host. Can't wait to do another escape room.”
“I visited your store this morning to buy some wine. What I wanted was not on the shelf...again. However an extremely polite youg man called Tom came and asked if he could help. I explained my requirements and he checked and found the wine I wanted had just arrived in the warehouse. He offered to go and get it. 5 minutes later he returned with my requirements 6 bottles of a Rhone. He was so polite and pleasant and would like you to note and thank him. We'll done Phillip Hodgson”
“We have stayed in this hotel 3-4 times a year for 6 years and we love it. Great location, clean rooms, great staff, you have everything you need and the breakfast is amazing! I arranged this trip as a suprise for my husband for Christmas and posted some decorations to add to the festive magic! See you next time!”
“Location is perfect you are right in the middle, lady on the desk wasnt the nicest, but the rooms were spacious and considering your in the centre, the noise outside doesn't effect you too much! Lovely stay!”
“Ayamase , poundo yam & Efo elugusi, Gizdodo , goat pepper soup was on point. I enjoyed it”
“Everything was perfect. Really nice atmosphere, great food. Couldn’t have been happier”
“Had my first burrito today!!! I chose jackfruit. Wow. So much goodness. So tasty. All vegan too! And served with a smile by two fun and friendly chaps. Very reasonable price.. but didn't accept cash (Hopefully that changes) Thankyou so much. Will definitely revisit.”
“Good place to work with fast wifi, though not all tables have plugs. There's often children so it could get loud. Strong coffee.”
“Lovely little quirky cafe, called in with husband and daughter on a Sunday afternoon. Food was really nice, myself and my husband ordered cheese and ham toasties with chutney, lovely thick slices of proper ham and thick slices of cheese. Our daughter ordered halloumi, avocado and hot honey bagel which she said was lovely. On the way out we spotted the cake counter and couldn't pass it by without taking a piece home. That too was delicious. We will definitely visit again when in the area.”
“Wow what a find We did a search for dog friendly places to have lunch in York. I have to say this is without a doubt the best pizza I have ever had. Hands down 100% my wife had the one with a whole Italian burrata so creamy I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a good pizza”
“We went here on a Thursday evening, and it was packed. Welcome was wonderful, and we were seated quickly, and drinks arrived soon after. Opted for the tuna carpaccio, sword fish, and prawn pasta, followed by the Lemoncello baked cheesecake. All was delicious, the fresh pasta extremely so. We would absolutely go again. I would recommend booking early, we arrived at 19:00 and it was just about right.”
“A nice little cafe in a in a pretty little village. The staff are lovely. And their sandwiches and cakes are really good value. It's worth a visit if you are in the area. It's also pet friendly which is a bonus.”
“I went here last week for a birthday meal and it was great! Great service, pretty environment and very friendly staff! We were welcomed and seated pretty much as soon as we walked in and the waiting time for the food was decent! Zara who was serving us was lovely, such a great service! We weren’t waiting too long and the food was also really good. The burger I had was delicious and the fries were good too! I especially loved the little pot of sauce that came with the meal! The meal was also beautifully presented! Very friendly and welcoming place that serves really nice food! Definitely recommend :)”
“Visited here as part of York Restaurant Week. That chicken mandi was unbelievably tasty, can tell the right amount of seasoning was used. I could see the restaurant owner adjusting the lights to enhance the dining atmosphere, which I find very nice. I also had a soup with a spicy kick to it. Like others have commented, I never tried Yemeni food so made it even better.”
“When I came to York to meet my overseas friend, we had actually passed this place. Since then, I've often wondered what it was like. So, seeing as I was spending the day in York, I decided to take a walk to Gatehouse Coffee and try it out. Although it's not an overly big place, it's very quirky and worth a visit! There's some chairs inside, and then a number of tables and chairs outside, which is great when the weather is nice. The lady who served me was super pleasant, as was the two chaps in there too! Was nice to sit outside and relax for a while with a cappuccino. Would definitely come back here again, and a great stop-off if you're walking the York City Walls!”
“Absolutely fantastic little cafe right behind York Minster. It has about 3 tables (for two) inside the cafe but quite a good number of tables outside. We had coffee and cake, which were both excellent! Can totally recommend!”
“Delicious quiche and salad for brunch served with a cappuccino in the beautiful garden. A definite must do if you are in the York area:”
“Amazing Cafe, and serves great authentic Italian food on an evening that you don't even get at high end restaurants in London. Fantastic hidden gem in Acomb - 100% worth a visit.”
“Great place to stay. Nice friendly staff..food always good.”
“See the update at the end of this original review. We have been coming here since the very beginning. It started with a kiosk while the cafe was being finished. We were extremely impressed by the fabulous coffee and brilliant staff. When Caffe Valeria was opened we knew we had found “our” place! We visit often, both as a couple and some times with friends. The coffee is and the choice of cakes and pastries is excellent. The staff are always smiling and making us feel welcome. All the staff are helpful and kind. We must mention George, Liv and Olly as going above and beyond to make us feel special. Please don’t change a thing. Helen and David Update, George, Liv and Ollie (the stars of Valeria’s) have all left taking its heart with them. We no longer go there. Staff could be better trained, owner unpleasant. We feel we have lost something very special.”
“If you're looking for something fresh and lighter than most places, you might want to try FeVa's omelettes. They come with chips or salad, and the portions are abundant. Also, amazing view from the tables!”
“Pleased we found this place . Nice food and all very fresh. It's obviously popular with the locals and the place was very busy when we went but the service was prompt.”
“Highly recommend! The pancakes are pure perfection! I visited 2 different spring espresso cafes in York and they were both great. Friendly stuff and accommodating, I asked for a change in my order and they were more than happy to adjust it. The pancakes were a massive portion and super yummy with a generous portion of maple syrup. I’m salivating thinking about them! The coffee was excellent! The brownie was delicious but a bit dry. Overall a great place- would definitely visit again!”
“Stayed at the inn for the weekend. Rooms are nice and clean. Right next to the pub, but you can't hear it, even the live music. Pub is lovely. Maybe the menu is lacking choice, but the pizzas are really delicious. Parking doesn't have number plate recognition anymore so no issues with it. There's no breakfast, but café across the road is serving sandwiches and cakes.”
“Got to be the best Italian food we’ve had in York! Everything was fresh, perfect textures and temperatures, packed with flavour and good portion sizes. Amazing authentic gelato for dessert. Solid selection of vegan options. Great service.”
