Hayrack Church Farm Park & Cafe

    ★★★★☆ 4.4
    Open

“Great for younger children. Animals are obviously well cared for (although lots of caged birds and ducks some people may not like). Reasonably priced entry with lots of opportunities to pet and feed the animals. 3 members of staff actively stopped to talk to us about the animals they were caring for which was nice. Wide variety of animals including a Barn owl, ferrets, pigs, sheep, goats, alpacas, canaries, donkeys, hens, peacocks and (rescued) parrots. 2 good playgrounds and a small indoor soft play. The food in the cafe was OK. Menu catered well for dietary requirements. No picnics allowed FYI. We were there for 4 hours including food and feeding the lambs so all in all a good day out.”

    Sick To Death

    ★★★★☆ 4.4
    Open

“I visited Sick to Death in Chester with my 8-year-old daughter. Although she was a bit scared at first, the exhibition turned out to be very educational and engaging. It’s a unique way to learn about the history of medicine, diseases, and how people used to live and treat illness in the past. The experience is well designed for both kids and adults. The displays are interactive and informative. The entry price is very reasonable – £8 for adults and £4.50 for children. Definitely worth a visit if you're in Chester!”

    The Grosvenor Museum

    ★★★★☆ 4.4
    Open

“Large museum with a wealth of artefacts and displays inside. The grand 19th century building provides an impressive setting for a wide range of exhibits, covering Roman history, local geography, industry, animals and much more besides. The museum incorporates 20 Castle Street, a 17th century house which showcases authentic depictions of rooms from the 17th to early 20th centuries. There's a vintage style tearoom here where you can pick up a hot drink while reading the information sheets provided. The galleries are all well presented, with plenty to read without being overwhelming. Interactive displays add to the appeal to families. The Roman gallery in particular was very nicely put together, with a fine collection of archaeological finds to see. The museum is free to visit, with donations welcomed. Well worth visiting to find out about the city of Chester, and an ideal indoor attraction for a wet day.”

“We stayed at the city hotel for 2 nights for my partners birthday weekend away, before we even arrived Sophie was texting us to see if we needed anything and let us know our room was ready, and wow what a room! We stayed in room 6 which has a free standing bath and all the little Luxuries you could need, from coffee pods, tea, fresh milk to shower gels, shampoo and bath salts. The room is well presented and nicely laid out with a very comfy bed and soft furnishings giving that homely luxury feel. Sophie was always on hand only a text away and willing to answer any questions or queries we had, as well as providing our welcome drinks on arrival and making sure our room had extra towels and toiletries on day 2 of our stay. I would HIGHLY recommend the city hotel Chester for a weekend get away and cannot thank Sophie enough for all the effort she puts into looking after her guests.”

The only minor downside was checkout: listed as 11 am, but we were asked to leave by 10 am with no late checkout option. Other than that, a fantastic stay and would happily return!
