What an absolute gem right in the heart of York. The food was delicious. The service was exceptional, I was over whelmed by the sheer amount of tea options available and a wonderful staff member assisted me to pick something that I would like. I had never heard of Soba tea before but itβs delicious and tastes like popcorn, I would highly recommend it. What a lush little place, very authentic with a great menu and the lightest and fluffiest cheesecakes you can imagine. We will definitely be back next time we visit York.

Ippuku Tea House caught my eye for its friendly staff, beautiful Japanese art, and wonderful food. I loved the fried oysters and the teriyaki chicken bowl β both were delicious. I could feel that the people here truly love what they do, and I wish them continued success. I hope to come back soon to try more of their dishes!

A friend brought us here in the pouring rain. We were originally going to the other japanese restaurant for sushi, but decided to stay for their tea. We got the Yame Gyokuro and Kuromame cha. As my wife is a tea fanatic, I believe we can say that they were certainly high quality. The waiter said that the Kuromame was roasted in-house, and you can tell a lot of care was put into these teas as their flavours were superb and not very tannic. The yame gyokuro has a lovely umami taste and leaves a wonderful aftertaste in your mouth, and the kuromame cha, for a lack of a better term, tasted like a really light coffee without the bitterness. The waiter also recommended their mochi to go with it, and we got the yuzu mochi and matcha mochi. The matcha was perfectly sweet and done well. Sometimes restaurants burn their matcha but this was not the case. The yuzu mochi really stood out to me as a citrus lover. It had the brightness of an orange, and was not too overpowering, much like a gentle lemon zest. I highly recommend trying this. as it is one of my new favourites. After the tea and snacks we decided to stay. We had okonomiyaki and gyudon, which are something me and my partner make often at home. We're very picky eaters, so we were very surprised that it was delicious and tasted similar to the way we prepare them. I wasn't expecting the sake taste in the gyudon, and it definitely elevated the flavour. The okonomiyaki was equally as delicious and well cooked, although I wish we could have ordered a protein with it! We also ordered fried oysters with their yuzu tartar, and as a first time oyster eater, I want to say that they are extremely delicious and could not recommend them more. There is a gentle crisp crunch on the outside and then a nice tanginess from the tartar, and they just melt in your mouth. For dessert we had a matcha cream roll with strawberries, and this was also very well made. The matcha cake itself was not too sweet, and was balanced out by the sweetness of the cream and strawberries. They even reserved this cake for after we finished eating as there was only two left! Our waiter Homme was very kind to us and made sure that we were served well. We learned a little bit about York today as we do not live here, and their service to us was wonderful. They also explained in detail about our dishes and the way they are made. Truly made our night! Thank you for taking some time out of your busy schedule to talk to us. βΊοΈ We sat on the outside garden as well which has heaters to keep us warm and a lovely cozy japanese scenery of plants. The atmosphere here is lovely. I also strongly appreciate their small collection of artisan goods. I love when restaurants collaborate with independent artists! They had lots of essential japanese cooking goods as well, and I also grabbed some of their high quality tea on the way out. What was a bit of a miserable night turned into a great experience, and I couldn't have asked for a better Halloween evening. I would highly recommend this place if you are looking for authentic Japanese home-style cooking. Thank you Homme!

Lovely breakfast selection We were actually aiming to come here for the ramen but ended up being a bit early and in a bit of a rush to eat as we wrapped up our York trip so we got the breakfast menu instead. It was rather good! Umami eggs, 8/10, eggs done just right, the various umami sauces and seaweed on top worked rather well. Breakfast sets, 8/10, my wife and brother's wife both ordered different breakfast sets. I forget quite what the difference was, but both went down a treat! Calpis, 8/10, not sure if they brew this in-house, but it was nice and refreshing with a subtle milky-sour flavour. Glad I tried something new!

Wished I couldβve taken more photos and upload into my review! The food was really good, the tea is also super duper good & refreshing to the palette. Highly recommend to go for their hot green tea and enjoy the tea along with the nice & quiet environment! Tea is best enjoyed in nice & quiet and relaxing environment just as it is back in Japan. My family really enjoyed this place very much and it is most certainly much better than what you can get in your typical Japanese restaurant back in Malaysia.

This place is a gem in York! They have the best dumplings Iβve ever had in my life, probably because they are cooked with sesame oil. The beef bowl was very flavorful, and I would absolutely recommend adding the onsen egg. Its method of cooking makes it very very creamy! Definitely a must!

I found this place by complete chance and only decided to go in because they advertised Japanese food with vegan options. What a great surprise, not only was the food vegan but it was the most authentic Japanese food I have ever had in the UK. As a half Japanese person I always struggle to find proper Japanese food but the cooks at Ippuku tea House are cooking homemade style Japanese food and doing it with respect and technique. The presentation was beautiful and the food tasted exactly how it should. I'm definitely going back for more.

Really large portion of authentic Japanese food with acceptable price. The staff are as friendly and polite as what Japanese should be, while their food quality is higher than I expected as well. Highly recommended!

Incredible food. I can't praise this place enough. Small & cute, but the menu is varied and we had dishes that I can safely say we'll probably never have again, unless we come back! The first mouthful of every dish was mind blowing and we chased every bite after that! So unusual to the Western palate but the depth & combination of flavours was absolutely to be savoured. Brilliant for Vegans. My no. 1 recommendation for York!
