“A fantastic meal tonight! It’s our first time here and it won’t be the last! The food was fresh and delicious and the service was swift. The green mandarin juice was delicious too! We had a little corner of the restaurant which was great! Looking forward to trying the other dishes next time!”

“I went to screwfix as an ignoramus. I measured everything, had taken photos and had some idea what I wanted. The guys at Screwfix, Monks Cross were superb! They didn't treat me like an eejit, they were very respectful, knowledgeable and honestly, could not have done any more for me. They showed endless patience and solved all bar one of my problems. The one unsolved problem, they gave me suggestions on where to go for the part I need. I was really worried about going into a place like this, knowing what I wanted but not knowing how to ask for it and looking a complete idiot. I won't have those worries again, thanks to the guys at Monks Cross Screwfix, one of which was Tom, didn't get the other guy's name, but he had a grey beard. I will from now on, continue to go to Screw fix every time I need some, safe in the knowledge I am likely to get exactly what I need, with expert advice, all at a reasonable price. Faultless Screwfix, thank you again for your patience, expertise, understanding and professionalism, very impressive.”

“Some of the best Thai food I have ever had. We ordered a takeaway and £20 was easily able to feed us, they even threw some free prawn crackers! The spring rolls are so good and the staff are lovely also!”

“If you visit Rosa, you must try the chicken rice — it’s incredibly delicious and tastes just like home in Thailand! The dipping sauce is perfect, the appetizers are great, and the noodles are amazing too. Every dish is full of authentic flavor. The restaurant has a cozy, lovely atmosphere with friendly service. Definitely worth a visit — highly recommended!”

To start we had the hummus and moussaka which had incredible flavours. The staff were very friendly and helpful, would definitely visit again.”

“This is a tiny cafe above a bookshop. Both are queer spaces, full of flags, acceptance and super friendly staff. I can highly recommend the bi passionfruit cake. The cafe is a meeting place for young people who identify as LGBTQ+, so if you have an issue with them you're not at all welcome here. This cafe is absolutely perfect for students but, to reiterate, it is very small!”

We’d previously stayed at No.15 in Bath and loved it, which is exactly why we decided to try No.1 in York. “Came back here for a second time to order the same dishes. Amazing steamed sea bass with chilli, lime, and coriander broth, and sticky rice. And the Bangkok platter and sweetcorn cakes to start. Delicious! Will definitely be coming back when we’re next in York.”

“This is one of my favourite places to go for take away. The food is delicious and quick. I usually get a quesadilla and the jalapeño jelly that comes on the side is fantastic. It's fairly small inside the shop so I do think it is better to take away.”

“Scrumptious food in a great, vibrant market style premises (Spark). Very good value for money with delicious fresh ingredients. Not much I can really add, go and try and see for yourself, I don't think you'll be disappointed. Adequate amount of choice without swamping you. Staff were friendly and service was with a smile. “Beautiful hotel, very close to train station and a short walk from the main shopping area of York. We had a lovely visit, and most of the staff were very courteous, welcoming and friendly. The room was well presented and we had a very comfortable bed. It is a higher priced hotel and you could see the attention to detail and little touches that made it special. We were slightly disappointed that we didn't receive the same warm level of greeting as other guests. It was a stay we'd saved for and had looked forward to very much. It was obvious they had regulars, which is fantastic and means the hotel gets it right as a general rule. But it would have been nice if we'd had a little conversation with the check-in member. The couple being checked in next to us were being asked very general questions like where they'd travelled from, creating a little conversation, but we didn't get the same; just a hello and asked about what card we wanted to put on file for incidentals and then silence. I did attempt to make a little polite conversation with the receptionist but it was clear that they were not interested. It made us feel a little awkward. Asking simple customer service questions makes guests feel welcome and at ease, which we didn't experience at that point. On checking out it was better; we were asked if we'd enjoyed our visit to York, where we were going back to, etc. It made us feel more welcome, even though we were checking out. All in all though, our check in experience hasn't put us off booking in again at some point. Chances are it was an exception to their usual level of service.”

“A big shout out for Tom for the support he gave us when we visited Everyman in York today. We are still adjusting to life in a wheelchair so were disappointed to find that there is no lift access to theatre one on the first floor. Tom patiently helped us negotiate the stairs and ensured that we were safely seated. His kindness and generosity contributed significantly to an enjoyable day out. That said, surely there should at least be a stair lift installed. Planning regulations were given as the reason for inadequate access provision but surely the Local Authority could be supporting the building owners to find a solution which respects the historic building whilst upholding York’s commitment to inclusivity.”

“Went to Brew York for a couple of beers and found they have a food company selling Asian inspired street food. You wouldn’t believe how good it was! One of the best katsu chicken I’ve ever had and the salt and pepper hash browns were something else!! Absolutely amazing food.”

“The future of kebabs is in great hands. We tried these yesterday and had to get them again tonight. They are the tastiest kebabs we have ever had! Served in a naan with juicy lamb thats spiced to perfection and served with salad and the sauces you get with pickle trays, especially that mint one that everyone fights for it was just amazing and so filling. Well done to the chefs and whoever decided to put it as a menu option! Try it out and be prepared to get addicted!”

“Fab evening meal here last night - great good, really friendly staff (perfectly on the right side of attentiveness) and very reasonable prices. Unfortunately for this lovely restaurant, its owner and staff, we realised afterwards that we'd seen what is sadly becoming an increasing issue of people running up large bills and then trying to get away without paying: a very loud and entitled family of four were seated near us; we noticed them ordering a lot (and being advised by the staff about portion sizes and what would be arriving, so as not to over-order) and they were very happy, smiling, laughing and talking loudly through their whole meal. The wait staff then took away empty plates at the end. We only saw as they went to pay that the man was now (quietly) trying to create an issue, and after they left, the staff were very upset. We spoke with the owner, and this family had complained that there was a problem with one of the meals - which, to note, they had eaten IN ITS ENTIRETY - so had been trying to blag the whole bill free. Absolutely disgusting behaviour from these obnoxious and selfish diners. From the impact alone on the staff, they should be thoroughly ashamed of what they did.”

“We had our small post wedding celebration here in The Courtyard. We stayed the night before and the evening of our wedding. The entire staff, from Event management as my first contact, to reception staff and the breakfast greeting was superb. However, a very special mention must go to Yontshi, who made sure we enjoyed our tasting menu the night before and took charge of our reception on the Saturday. She made us feel like we were the most important people in her world. Thank you Mr & Mrs Miles Walker”
