“We went here on a Thursday evening, and it was packed. Welcome was wonderful, and we were seated quickly, and drinks arrived soon after. Opted for the tuna carpaccio, sword fish, and prawn pasta, followed by the Lemoncello baked cheesecake. All was delicious, the fresh pasta extremely so. We would absolutely go again. I would recommend booking early, we arrived at 19:00 and it was just about right.”

“We visited for the first time this weekend. The food was delicious and great portion sizes. I had the goats cheese and my wife had garlic mushrooms. They were fantastic. I then had the chicken on skewers with rice and bbq sauce andmy wife had the steak. Great portion sizes and couldnt finish it all. Nice atmosphere with attentive and welcoming staff. We will be back the next time we are in York. Highly recommended, give it a try you will not be disappointed.”

“An absolute gem of a restaurant! Fantastic location, plenty of seating and a great atmosphere. Food is fab and a great menu to chose from and there is something for everyone! The skewers are so tasty, the tiramisu is to die for and the range and choice of drinks complement each and every dish. Well worth booking so don’t arrive and be disappointed! Staff are super tentative and friendly and made our meal special. Thanks and already looking forward to coming back again soon!”

“We had our small post wedding celebration here in The Courtyard. We stayed the night before and the evening of our wedding. The entire staff, from Event management as my first contact, to reception staff and the breakfast greeting was superb. However, a very special mention must go to Yontshi, who made sure we enjoyed our tasting menu the night before and took charge of our reception on the Saturday. She made us feel like we were the most important people in her world. Thank you Mr & Mrs Miles Walker”

“Loved it! We did not have a reservation, but luckily there was a table for us (8 pm Friday night). The service was good and they were very quick. The portions were very good and the food was lovely for a great price. We went with the dinner menu which is a very good deal. Would recommend!”

“Really good food, I had the seafood mixed grill and each piece of fish and seafood was cooked to perfection. The pork belly was succulent, with a crispy crackly skin. Service was great. There was one minor problem, there was no toilet paper in the ladies but it wouldn't put me off going again”

The service and decor are fabulous and the food especially the steaks are up there with the best I have had in any country (check my other reviews I have lots of experience). “A little cautious at first as there weren’t many people in but we were early and it’s Thursday. We were not disappointed. Thursday offer of £40 for a steak dinner and wine for 2 and it was really good. Great cut of steak, cooked perfectly, amazing sauce, chips to die for (crisp doesn’t cover it) and really good wine. Superb music too. If we lived in York we would be here every Thursday. Shannon our server was friendly and welcoming. HIGHLY recommend”

“Delicious home cooked Polish food! The pork stew was really flavourful, with tender meat. The potato dumplings was the right texture and pairs really well with the sauce and stew. The sour rye soup was absolutely delicious. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Definitely recommend!”

“What a beautiful restaurant, amazing food and fantastic value for money. Highly recommend here. Couples sat downstairs and larger groups or those with kids upstairs. “An absolutely wonderful experience with truly delicious food. The wild mushroom soup was a solid 12/10 absolutely outstanding! The rabbit liver could have been a bit crunchier, but the flavor was still excellent. My cousin had the “Gypsy-style pancake” and it was also absolutely delicious. The restaurant’s atmosphere and interior design are beautiful, and the view of the river makes it even more special. It was also great to chat with the staff in Polish - such a nice touch when you’re abroad and can still hear your native language while enjoying authentic, high-quality Polish cuisine. The service was superb: attentive, friendly, and made the whole experience even better. Highly recommended!”

“I visited Cafe No 8 before Covid and really loved the food. They shorten their operation hours after Covid and we finally made it for Sunday lunch today. We had a starter, mains and dessert. The food was just as good as I remembered. Service was good too. This place just celebrated their 20 years' anniversary in York which tells you that they got to be good to last that long given the ultra competitive food scene here. The food was of top quality, refined and cooked with care. We had beef and pork tenderloin and they were so tender. The potatoes were roasted perfectly. And we had a selection of vegetables (Broccolini, Parsnip, Carrots, Spring Onions etc) not over cooked like many places. And I was so glad to try the Dark Belgian Chocolate Truffle with Black Sesame Ice Cream. I love black sesame ice cream but is a rarity to find them in York. I wish I could buy a tub of their black sesame ice cream and bring it home. If you are looking for a place with a relaxed atmosphere, serving non-pretentious and delicious food, I recommend Cafe No 8 Bistro.”

“Really nice locally owned cafe! We had the chicken tikka sandwich on their homemade bread! Menu is small and quite unique so fussier eaters might struggle though there is a note that they are happy to make things off menu if they can! Prices are slightly higher than normal for sandwiches but likely similar to the area. A little cramped inside hence the 4 star for atmosphere. Really worth a visit if you like a unique and different menu as I do!”

“We have been coming to Bosuns since it opened and enjoyed a family birthday meal here yesterday. It continues to impress and the service on this busy Thursday steak night was absolutely outstanding. Jess never stopped smiling and was exceptionally polite and Alex was just as good, funny and charming. Exemplary service from these two which really matched the quality of the food. We all enjoyed the steak, which was cooked perfectly as ordered. Absolutely fantastic restaurant and well deserving of its reputation and very good value on a Thursday steak night.”

“We've visited this pub restaurant before and loved it. Housed in a Grade II listed building it has a comforting ambience. The menu is definitely meat based and the service is really nice: friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. We really like it. We nibbled on some "Blistered Padron peppers with sea salt" - excellent - and then, as we'd had a lunch, we chose to share: - 300g Chargrilled Ex Dairy Ribeye served with beef fat roast tomato, spinach, garlic & watercress pesto, & skinny fries or chunky chips The steak was perfectly cooked - beautifully medium rare, with skinny chips and a delicious brandy-based sauce. No room for pud, unfortunately! A really good meal in a really nice place. (I took the photo after we'd shared the steak and started to eat it! “Found this little gem of a place by default, a couple leaving said it was amazing food so we decided to nip in, and so very glad we did. We only had bar snacks (Yorkshire pudding with pulled beef and dirty fries). Both absolutely delicious, very good cask ales and nice selection of gins too, in a chilled, non pretentious atmosphere with friendly staff! We will be back!”

“Donner Burger: 5/5 Best donny burger i've had. Chips 4.5/5 1st time it was soggy in the same box with burger, now they were in seperate paper bag, arrived fresh crisp and added seasoning sepertly to shake for yourself. Wings 1/5 Probably the worst wings i've had in my life, but it might be a one off, don't want to try again.”
