“Wow. What a place. Absolutely buzzing with atmosphere on a Thursday night. We didn’t order food (apart from a couple of packet of tasty Yorkshire Crisps) but the food & portions looked awesome. Great selection for all tastes (Carnie, Veggie & Vegan). We got the only two seats at the very narrow bar and had a right laugh with the no-nonsense bar crew. It was so easy to order drinks using a number on the display next to the bar. The beautiful wooden rafters and full taxidermy wall make the upstairs bar one of the maddest place to get a pint. I think there is a potato is a big cat’s mouth. Standard. Sheepskin covered church pew and candles in bottles with years of dripping wax adds to the madness. As well as the incredible selection of cask & keg, they had Whitby Rum on the shelf. No generic spirits here! Oh and the soundtrack… The bar crew were playing what they like. Not what the brewery tells them to. Refreshing! Can’t wait to return.”

“This place is brilliant. From the moment we walked in we were treated as if we were the only ones that mattered. The staff are fantastic, attentive and knowledgeable. The food was cooked to perfection and the only criticism is that a small portion of vegetables would have been nice with the lamb. Highly recommend. Cost was approximately £50 per person with wine and drinks. Will definitely return.”

“Fab evening meal here last night - great good, really friendly staff (perfectly on the right side of attentiveness) and very reasonable prices. Unfortunately for this lovely restaurant, its owner and staff, we realised afterwards that we'd seen what is sadly becoming an increasing issue of people running up large bills and then trying to get away without paying: a very loud and entitled family of four were seated near us; we noticed them ordering a lot (and being advised by the staff about portion sizes and what would be arriving, so as not to over-order) and they were very happy, smiling, laughing and talking loudly through their whole meal. The wait staff then took away empty plates at the end. We only saw as they went to pay that the man was now (quietly) trying to create an issue, and after they left, the staff were very upset. We spoke with the owner, and this family had complained that there was a problem with one of the meals - which, to note, they had eaten IN ITS ENTIRETY - so had been trying to blag the whole bill free. Absolutely disgusting behaviour from these obnoxious and selfish diners. From the impact alone on the staff, they should be thoroughly ashamed of what they did.”

“An excellent restaurant with excellent cuisine, I have never eaten such wonderful steaks anywhere else - it is simply something incredible, therefore Five stars 5*. If it were possible to give 6*, I would give 7*. Yes, it is expensive, but this is a Steak House. At the same time, I did not expect that the most ordinary steak on duty for £16 would be simply incredible - soft and very tasty. You do not even need to cut it - it is already cut and you only have to take a piece, put it in your mouth and ... drown. Just drown in an ocean of pleasure! For the first time in 8 years of living in the UK I ate a relatively inexpensive, but such a delicious steak! I will soon start rapping about this steak. Everything else was also excellent - French fries under parmesan cheese with some very tasty sauce, then there were desserts, I tried two and both were excellent, especially the peach mousse. The service is a separate praise! I'm a little confused, but I got the impression that our table for 4 people was served by 4 or 5 waiters. Moreover, the service system is worked out to the smallest detail, everyone knows their business and supports their colleague. Needless to say, there were no empty seats in the hall, it was necessary to book a table in advance, but it was worth it. I really liked the interior design of the restaurant hall, but what I did not expect was the magnificent interior of the lobby in front of the toilets, and the toilets themselves were very clean and very well done. It often happens that the restaurant hall is decorated very well, but this is where the care for customers ends. But here everything is different - everything is thought out to the smallest detail and nothing spoils the impression of the wonderful cuisine of the restaurant. Of course, next time I come to York, I will book a table in this restaurant in advance. I can safely recommend everyone to enjoy lunch or dinner in this restaurant, I am sure you will get a lot of pleasure!”

“Found this little gem of a place by default, a couple leaving said it was amazing food so we decided to nip in, and so very glad we did. We only had bar snacks (Yorkshire pudding with pulled beef and dirty fries). Both absolutely delicious, very good cask ales and nice selection of gins too, in a chilled, non pretentious atmosphere with friendly staff! We will be back!”

“We visited here after checking other reviews, we were not disappointed. The service and decor are fabulous and the food especially the steaks are up there with the best I have had in any country (check my other reviews I have lots of experience). “One of my favourite Thai places in York. The food here is absolutely delicious and great as a dine in or takeaway option. The gluten free options are clearly labelled on the menu with quite a few different dishes being gf. The only thing to note is that when I said I was a coeliac, I was told the gf labelled fish cakes wouldn't be suitable due to cooking methods creating cross contamination. While it is really good that the staff are so well trained in dietary requirements and were able to tell me this clearly to prevent me from getting poorly, it is a shame that something labelled gluten free on the menu wasn't ultimately suitable for coeliacs. They instead advised a different gluten free starter which ended being fantastic.”

“Had my 40th birthday lunch here with 25 members of my family. Excellent food, fantastic service, all with a smile. It was the perfect venue to look after such a big party and they did exceptionally well, comes highly recommended and I shall definitely be going back. The salad bar was great and the selection of meats they brought round was extensive and every single one was delicious. Absolutely faultless.”

“We've visited this pub restaurant before and loved it. Housed in a Grade II listed building it has a comforting ambience. The menu is definitely meat based and the service is really nice: friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. We really like it. We nibbled on some "Blistered Padron peppers with sea salt" - excellent - and then, as we'd had a lunch, we chose to share: - 300g Chargrilled Ex Dairy Ribeye served with beef fat roast tomato, spinach, garlic & watercress pesto, & skinny fries or chunky chips The steak was perfectly cooked - beautifully medium rare, with skinny chips and a delicious brandy-based sauce. No room for pud, unfortunately! A really good meal in a really nice place. (I took the photo after we'd shared the steak and started to eat it! “Really good food, I had the seafood mixed grill and each piece of fish and seafood was cooked to perfection. The pork belly was succulent, with a crispy crackly skin. Service was great. There was one minor problem, there was no toilet paper in the ladies but it wouldn't put me off going again”

“We hosted our annual trade show pre-dinner at the Biltmore Bar & Grill in York on Tuesday, 14th October, and it was a fantastic experience from start to finish. The atmosphere was vibrant and welcoming, and the staff were attentive and always ready to help. Bar service was quick, efficient, and delivered with a friendly smile. The food was outstanding, a wide variety of delicious options, all of excellent quality. Given the size of our group, we opted for a buffet-style setup, which worked perfectly. The staff ensured the buffet was consistently replenished and that everyone was well looked after. I would highly recommend the Biltmore Bar & Grill for future events. “A much needed meal after a long day, and Millfield Beefeater delivered. We went for the steak and the hunters chicken from the 8 pound menu, alongside a crispy beef side. Everything was served hot, tasted fresh, and was well prepared. The staff were attentive without being intrusive, and the atmosphere was relaxed and inviting. Very good value and a spot we’ll happily return to.”
