We had to wait almost an hour for our meals, there were a few people who ordered after us and they still got their meals before us. My chicken was nice but there wasn't enough chimichurri sauce on it, the steaks were over done and didn't even look like a Rib-eye cut, so we sent it back and after another 15 minutes wait we got an undercooked one. I understand it's difficult to make a nice steak, but from an expensive steak restaurant you would expect some consistency.

Walked in without a reservation, seated immediately by wonderful staff. Food was incredible cooked to perfection, dessert was amazing too Next time we are back in York we would definitely return

Found this Argentinian steak house on our morning stroll thru central York. We ordered a pair of Cosmopolitans, hubby ordered his favorite Filet and I ordered the Rib Eye, both medium rare. Cooked to perfection, charred and pink in the core. The baked potato sides and vegetables, tasted fresh and crisp. We simply don’t have this quality and service at these prices back in the USA. What a find!

Amazing. Turned up around 6pm on a weekday without a booking. Friendly staff accommodated us. The food was great, nachos to share to start.. mixed grill was a large amount of food, partner had a fillet steak cooked to perfection exactly to order. Nice vibe to the restaurant, felt quite authentic.

i’ve not done a google review for an eternity (i know you’ve missed me - i’ve missed you too), but i felt compelled to write a review for this place. if you like steak, it’s imperative that you visit el gaucho. i don’t know what on earth they do to make their cows so delicious - they feed them some kind of magical grass apparently - but this was hands-down the best steak i’ve ever eaten. i had the rump, but i can confirm that the rib-eye was equally delicious. it’s impossible to eat either without going ‘mmmm’ while it’s in your mouth (i’ll go back to review every other steak they serve). cooked to perfection, and great service too. but don’t just take my word for it… actually do take my word for it, unless you’re calling me a liar? it’s amazing. thanks for listening. yeah, i love you too x

Celebrated my partners 50th here last night with a rowdy party of 17! We were upstairs which was absolutely fantastic. Lovely party room! As usual it did not disappoint. The staff were truly amazing. Helpful, patient and deserved a medal trying to get the menu choices out of the rowdy bunch. Food amazing as always. One of York’s true gems.

Meat was nice but under seasoned and they give you McDonald's esq salt sachets to season these cuts of meat? Has a picture of the Falkland islands on their menu as part of 'Argentina' an insult to the British service men who died defending the island from foreign invaders. Disgusting disrespect for a restaurant in the UK.

Recommended in York. Superb Argentinean steak and could be the best in town. Suitable price for the quality and size of the meals and service. We had the chorizo and nachos as a starter with Argentinian beer and a cider. For the mains, we has the large (400g) Chuleton (rib eye) and bife de chorizo (sirloin strip). The mains were literally perfectly cooked (medium and medium rare), very tasty and juicy. The dish came with wild rocket salad and chips. You are given the option of any sauce with the salad and steak. We preferred the Chimichurri with the steaks. We also had with the meat a bootle of organic wine “Passo Doble” Malbec and it was perfect with the steaks. The kids had the chips, salad and vegetables and came as part of the main meals which was great. The kids had pineapple juice but we had many juices to choose from. The waiters Augustin and Augustina were very good, welcoming and friendly. The owner, cook and waiters are all from Argentina, so it was as we were in Argentina for a moment. Very enjoyable and relaxed atmosphere. The place is well arranged and looked after with an Argentinian steak house decor. Will come back with my family. Gracias chicos. Nos vemos pronto.

Worst meat restaurant I have ever been. Quality of meat is not on par with average meat restaurants. I asked for the most tender meat, it was not tender at all. Service is run by some students. Veggies were defrosted. Based on reviews, visitors have mid/low standards. Pictures of the food look ok, but taste is not.
