Ordered the roasted duck and char siu - unfortunately both were quite disappointing. The char siu also seemed to be from a less conventional cut of pork, which affected the texture. I heard the other dishes are better. Prices are on the higher side, even compared to many Chinese restaurants in London. The place is cash-only, which feels inconvenient given most places now accept cards or offer a small discount for cash. Service, however, was decent.

Best highlight of our road trip to Scotland! Stopped over in York and discovered this Hong Kong restaurant - serving very authentic and delicious Chinese food by a Hong Kong Family. Our family is also from Hong Kong and it tastes just like home and better than many other Chinese restaurants in London!! And they also welcome dogs which is very rare for a Chinese restaurant, the place is very clean and the people are so lovely and gave our Westie the biggest warm welcome. My father is already thinking when to come back again to York to visit this restaurant again, we will be back! :D We ordered milk tea, ice lemon tea, salt and pepper tofu and chicken wings, satay beef udon, french toast, salted fish fried rice, morning glory, and the crispy belly pork (most order)! What a lovely place!

Literally cried because of the taste and the heartwarming atmosphere that feels like home. I really recommend if you are searching for real Hong Kong food in York !!

A family-style Hong Kong-flavoured restaurant with a warm and friendly atmosphere. The menu includes clear photos, so you can easily order just by looking at the pictures. Highly recommend the roast duck and roast pork. We also ordered the crispy noodles with pork ribs — the portion was generous and it was absolutely delicious. The iced lemon tea is also a must-try. If I visit York again, I’ll definitely come back here for dinner.

Very and only authentic Hong Kong style “cha chaan teng” in York. They are not only providing “Siu Mei” and fried noodles and rice, but also really local HK “tea set” like Ham macaroni.

Very nice food , friendly owners and staff. Reasonable price for Authentic Hong Kong /Cantonese dishes that you can hardly find elsewhere in York . We had stir fried beef with rice noodles and curry beef with rice . Delicious .

Service really slow, food was warm, £4.50 for a Hong Kong style milk tea is well overpriced. You’re better going to a local Chinese restaurant which would serve you a better quality meal. The place is well overrated.

Definitely a highlight of our trip. The best HK tea restaurant we had in UK, very authentic Cantonese dishes hardly found in anywhere else, and is SUPER dog friendly! We had a good time (especially Domi the puppy who got loads of loves and treats & toy in there)

The best HK cha chaan tang I’ve ever had in UK. A warm family run restaurant has their own principles on serving the most authentic HK food to their customers. Upper River has now become my top priority for my next visits in York, definitely recommended to those who appreciate true HK culture and food, this place is definitely cannot be missed. We listened to staff’s recommendations and turned out to have the biggest surprises with super yummy food.
