My family an I visited for the first time in Sunday for a roast. The food was lovely, couldn't give a five star as the roasted parsnips and carrots were tuff to cut and chewy. But don't let that stop you going, the flavours are fantastic, meat is superb and very good and attentive service. We will definitely be back!

Wonderful food, full of flavour and presented without gimmicks. Prompt, polite service in a charming rustic building with nods to the historic past. Lively selection of ales too! A little piece of France in the centre of York. Superb !

Our food was delicious! We had the Sunday pork roast including Yorkshire pudding (2 course special) with an entree (shared) and a dessert (shared). The staff were super friendly and very helpful. Thank you to Oliver in the bar for his suggestions and wonderful friendly service.

Went for Sunday lunch. Started with a delicious special of asparagus risotto, then had a mixed beef and pork roast dinner. Lovely tender meat with great crackling and Yorkshire pudding and home made gravy. Up until now would have said that Roast, on borough market was the best roast dinner out but this topped it! Great service too.

Found this little gem of a place by default, a couple leaving said it was amazing food so we decided to nip in, and so very glad we did. We only had bar snacks (Yorkshire pudding with pulled beef and dirty fries). Both absolutely delicious, very good cask ales and nice selection of gins too, in a chilled, non pretentious atmosphere with friendly staff! We will be back!

Visited for Sunday lunch and got to admit its the best in town. Started with a lovely French onion soup followed by homemade vegetables and giant Yorkshire pudding, delicious gravy, and a generous cut of beef and pork. Great selection of wine and a lovely quaint atmosphere.

Food was great and service excellent. It was a really enjoyable night following a last minute scramble for a booking after another restaurant cancelled last minute. Also thanks to the nice lady at Melton who recommended their sister restaurant as I never found this on Google maps or tripadvisor.

Wonderful meal here tonight with Collette tours. I had the pork with Yorkshire pudding and veggies and it was wonderful. The Mrs said the same about her dinner. Portions were certainly generous! The local beer tasting flight was good. Service was perfect. Could not ask for more! For taking care of a group as large as ours everything came out hot and delicious.

What a wonderful meal!!! The place has A LOT of steep rickety stairs so if you have anyone with mobility problems you had better ask for a downstairs table! I delightful old building with plenty of character. We went for the £20 restaurant week meal. It was delicious. Beautifully presented & lovely flavours. But the staff are a big plus point. They were all so lovely & friendly & helpful. They made it from a delicious meal into a lovely whole experience. Thankyou so much for making us feel so welcome X ♥️
