Ordered 2 chicken Gyros and they came smothered in a tomato sauce which wasnt mentioned on the menu and totally ruined them for us, the sauce also had abit of a kick to it which meant my partner couldnt eat hers. We Should of been asked if we wanted the sauce instead of just putting it on.
On our nine day trip to England, this was the worst food we had, and the Market area where we ate was filthy, with overflowing garbage bins, and food strewn/smashed all over the pavement. Not only did our food taste bad, it was a mess to deal with in an outdoor dining area. Also, the food was more Middle Eastern than Greek, but we like both, if it tastes good (it didn't).
Very authentic and delicious food, verified by my Greek friend. I got a chicken gyro without chips. The chicken was delicious and well served, juicy and tender. The sauce was very balanced and the portion was good.
More of a rant. I must just be unlucky. Ordered mixed grill platter. Waited about 20 minutes for it, a long time. Two other customers after me were served their orders before i got mine. After opening my order, there was no chicken (should be sausage, gyros and chicken). I must say the chips were good, but the rest are just ordinary. Shame. There are better food choices all around.
These gyros are amazing! I have bought the chicken wrap on multiple occasions, and the quality has been consistent. The veggies are all fresh and the meat is juicy. I also ask for some spice. It comes with seasoned fries as well. Compared to other food shops in the Shambles, this place has the best price/food ratio. I highly recommend this place and will continue to be their customer.
They do an absolutely amazing chicken gyro. I like it extra spicy and they don't good job on that as well. You can wait in a queue, but it's s worth it. Absolutely delicious food
Excellent food and conveniently placed to sit in Shambles food court. Our go to when we're in York at lunchtime. Nice smile from Maria always makes you feel better.
One of the best gyros I've had in a while - generous portion, the wrap is fantastic, with quality chicken, and even the chips are awesome. Downside is the tomato (?) sauce over the top. That's the reason for the missing star, it kinda overpowered everything with a taste of a cold minestrone cup-a-soup. Other than that, would highly recommend.
Well you just can’t go wrong with Stam and Maria’s Greek food! Simply delicious, tasty, cooked to perfection and very reasonable priced! 5* would recommend and will definitely eat here again! It’s no wonder they’re busy!
Big queues but well worth the wait. Beautiful chicken gyros, decent portion and easy to eat despite looking awkward. A good lunch spot for some street food in York shambles area.
